Shower services at truck stops......

My husband has recently informed me of shortage of showers on the road. He told me last night, that the Truck Stops; Flyin' J's, TA's, and Petro's, all have showers.....HOWEVER, most times there's a 2 hour wait. When you're a company driver, you don't have 2 hours to wait, I think this forum is well aware of that. Convenience stores sometimes have showers, but is in the same tank. Beyond the wait, there's an 8-10 dollar charge. Is this fair, or am I just being a common American that believes a driver should have the right to be clean.
Three hours of sleep here, and 2 hours of sleep there.....it's a hard life! We all know that. But to not have the basics available, then SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! Does anyone have any input on this subject.
I'm new to the sight and informed my husband that I had joined. He'll do the same when he gets home this weekend. I've read many of the postings and I think the sight is very impressive.
My husband runs from Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina and Arkansas areas. If anyone has any advise, please LET US KNOW! We know if the "WHEELS AREN'T TURNIN' , THE $'s AREN'T BEING MADE"!
Thanks for reading the post,
My Hugo

First of all , all the chains have a card you can get to swipe when you fuel . With Pilot it's the Driver Payback card . You get a free shower credit every time you purchase 50 gallons of fuel or more . With Pilot , T/A, and Luv's you also get credits of 1 penny per gallon for purchases at the chain . I stay at Pilots and Flying J's and don't see long waits for showers . Maybe he is trying at the wrong time of day . I run the same states , MI , IN , and OH .

Thanks for the info, I know he's mentioned the card for free showers, I guess with him it's more of a time issue than money. Thanks a million!

Must be a time-of-day issue?

Only once have I waited more than about 10 minutes and that was because the Flying J in Lebec was renovating and had about two-thirds of their showers closed. I shower every/every other day. Sometimes I'll go to bed without a shower and then get up early and have one (but I also wash my bedding weekly).

I've seen a problem at Pilots because they are just too lazy to wash showers until a driver needs one . Then they'll wash one . I had a clerk at the Pilot at exit 36 on I-75 in OH tell me if I didn't like it go on down the road . The Pilot on I-64 at exit 92 in IN was the same deal . All the showers were dirty , not being used . They washed one for me then an hour later at shift change they still hadn't washed any others . The Pilots at exit 28 on I-71 in KY keep showers available . On the Pilot Driver Payback Card , Subway , Taco Bell , and Arbys at Pilots will accept them . McDonald's won't .

This was about 4 a.m. . They said the guy that cleans the showers was out emptying trash because 2nd shift didn't do it . Nobody was using a shower . I saw all the keys in the drop box .

If your hubby pays for a shower and his company doesn't reimburse him for it, save all receipts. They are tax-deductible. Not sure on the details (my company reimburses, so it's not an issue for me) but a tax professional could tell you how to do it.
