There was much wrong with this incident . No one could give a description of the car that allegedly cut the trooper off . For some unexplained reason he also had his dashcam turned off . An overweight officer trying to run from his car to the scene of an assault or robbery in progress will take extra time to get to the scene and a fit suspect (or less unfit) will easily outrun him and go on to commit other crimes .
For one thing, the incident you described has nothing to do with an overweight police officer and and overweight trucker as the thread is dealing with.

The incident in question that you linked to has other issues that are not disclosed in the article. It was not the first time he has had problems.

Now, consider an overweight officer driving his car or chasing a criminal is most likely only going to have a limited effect.

Consider, again, the odds of the overweight trucker hauling hazmat and having health issues. It can affect a wider area and greater numbers of people.

Will it always be the same, NO.

I have said that I do not support it. I am only trying to explain why it might happen.

Will it happen, I don't think so.

By the way, overweight cops are another issue in itself. I can only guess that they get away with it because of the union involved.

In my opinion, he needs removed from the police force. He exhibited poor judgement and should be treated accordingly. If a trucker uses poor judgement and someone dies, what usually happens?

They will say I was a trucker and then they passed this bs rule saying if I am overweight that I am disqualified to drive the truck.

Alot of the overweight truckers will qualify for the disability because at a certian weight they consider it to be a disability.

Then the goverment will be complaining that social security is going broke again like they did in the mid 90's.

You will only be unqualified to drive a truck. You will not be considered disabled. Disabled means unable to work at anything.

kind of yes, kind of no. we have these companies doing whatever they want to do and now we, the taxpayers, are going to foot 1 trillion dollars or whatever to bail their stupid a##es out. Had these groups been regulated this may have never happened.

Instead we are now going to give one person 1 trillion dollars with no oversight what-so-ever.

government can be a good thing to an extent. are politicians have just gotten too greedy and can't accomplish anything in a bipartisan manner.

Actually once you hit a certian weight that is classified as being disabled.
If you are diqualified from driving a truck that is one thing. But as far as being considered disabled that is another thing.
I have seen guys out there with really red legs, lots of blue and red spots on their legs all I can think is man why does this happen.

I am an overweight guy it is not from trucking I have been over weight most of my life.
While out on the road i would usually go out in the am and walk around the parking lot for 20-30 min to get a little excersize I was allways told you must walk atleas 20- 30 min to get anything out of it that way it has a chance to speed up your heart and circulate your blood more that way you can help reduce the blood clotting in your veins.

I don't think you'll ever see a rule or law that says you have to weigh so much to drive a truck. Come on, where do think it should stop? How about smokers? Oh wait a minute, do you drink?? Maybe they should adapt the same rules they have in the military. Then we'd see 4 times a year the drivers running the PFT tests. Can the drivers run a mile and ½ under 12 minutes? Sorry, park that truck.

I think there are too many laws and regulations in this country already. However, if they want trk drivers to loose weight, then mandate trk stops to serve healthy food, for heaven's sake. I am a vegetarian trk driver, very skinny and very healthy. Now, I have been cooking in the trk (when I have time) because there's practically nothing to eat out there (other than meat, fried greasy meat, greasy pasta saturated in melting cheese, too much sugar in the food, and raw cauliflower and broccoli...

In order to qualify for disability, there are many hoops to jump through. I know of people who had major heart attacks and could hardly walk across the room that were denied disability.

Those aren't nessessarily from weight issues. Most everyone who has spent a decent amount of years on concrete floors with have the blue splotchy spots. Hubby weighed 130 and had them from walking on concrete floors for years.

Yep yep yep. Along with terminal illnesses that would prevent one from leading a normal life....

I think the worst safety problem we have in this industry are the cowboys and the inexperienced wannabe cowboys.

Really there should be psychological testing for drivers. We need to get these crazy gypsies off the road.

The motor carriers need to have a hard look taken at them too. They abuse drivers so bad that the drivers are constantly under stress. That BS has to stop.

I think they should look at factors such as that, then look at overweight drivers

Who are the "cowboys" and what, exactly, is their safety record (vs. others)?
