Finishing up my OTR training. My trainer has a Garmin Nuvi. It was supposed to be the best trucker GPS. I am not impressed as we have had "her" try to route us down residential streets, and low clearance roads.

I don't need a lecture on the evils of GPS. Start your own thread if you want to beat your chest. This is just supplemental equipment.

    Anyone run the Cobra?

I have never used a GPS, but what i have read is the best one out is the Rand-Mcnally. I would trust them more then Cobra or anyother. They do make the Trucker road atlas. There a little high on the price, but if you count on one, i would get the one that makes the atlas we all use.

the Garmin is supposed to be the best. It does everthing you guys mentioned. 4-5 miles before you get to the scales it lets you know. Heavy traffic? Sometimes it is correct. We were able to route around an accisnet that had I-10 backed up 8 miles. I didn't pay attention to it and ended up sitting in construction traffic in San Antonio for 3 hours :biggrin_25510:

I like the idea of a 7 inch screen. :biggrin_25515:

I am looking into buying a new Truck GPS and recently asked a clerk at a Flying J which one they sell the most of... She said she had sold 3 Rand McNally Intelliroute TND 500's and 0 Cobra 7700's. I failed to ask how many had been returned though... lol

The new price on the Cobra is $399 at Petro. My sweetie's son is a mechanic there. He gets 20% off :biggrin_25525:

The Garmin had a located 22 miles from where we really were in Arkansas a week or two ago. We would have had a problem if we would have logged that as a stop!

All of the GPS's are off right now. The big quake in Chile knocked the earth off it's axis a few inches.

I have a Garmin 1350 and I love it so far, but I'm looking to get the Garmin 465t for truckers. I'm hoping it will work as advertised :)

the 465T is the garmin nuvi, thats the model number.

I just went through two weeks of BS with both the RM TND500 and the 465T, finally got the 7700, and so far its been the best by far. The routing is much better then the 465t and TND 500. both had me going on country roads that obviously hadnt been used in decades. there was just a bunch of little issues that made them one big mess for me.

The RM TND 500 wanted me to take the lower level of the G.W. bridge in NY, and every time you stop the remaining trip mileage would get screwy, also the splash screen when you do hit a road that it has no data for just freaky big.

The garmin is a joke, typical car routing with a few truck stops, but most roads had a disclaimer to them in the lower left corner saying essentially "no data" the pro with this is you can route yourself on google maps and send it to the 465t, very cool but still not worth the premium price. Oh, and with the live traffic on the garmin you also get coupon banners ON THE GPS for restaurants your passing by street side while your on the interstate. ?????

Love the 7700, the screen is a bit big but so far not perfect but so much better then the other two.

If and when I go to a standalone GPS over my laptop, I will be using the PCMiler PCM series.... 440/540/740, depending on how much spare change I have. If you run Canada at all, the PCMiler seems to be the only one that has Canadian addresses and truck routes.
