Watch any USB cable you use. The smaller USB end is a 5 pin. They do make 4 pin USB ends for DC chargers. If you use a 4 pin you will destroy the USB port on the TND.
Did you call for a DC cord replacement? They can ship to other places besides you house while you are on the road.
Thanks,
mark

Rand does not set the rate of currency for countries. It is true the Canadian dollar is higher.
Do you not have friends in the USA you have it shipped to? Do you make trips into the USA?
I am sorry the rates for a product going accross the border is so high, but Rand does not set the rates.
I was not happy I had to pay double the price of a dinner while in Canada, but either I eat or not eat.
I sometimes receive FedEx for a Candian friend of mine, since his phone company will not ship to Canada.
Thanks,
mark

And therefore the cost should be lower in Canadian dollars, correct ? ( the complaint is not regarding present exchange rates, so this point is moot)
Me friends ? I hardly have any here, but that is my problem and not an issue, thank you for the suggestion though.
I frequently make trips to the states; love the country and folk I've meet there too- the States is a nation and Americans a people that has be maligned far beyond what is reasonable- regardless of global political affiliation.
But Rand could have provided an option, I frequently ordered bicycle components from the states which I had shipped via US Postal Service - I have not had a single issue with them. The last package that I recieved from the states via UPS after I paid the astronomical brokerage fee I discovered my cc had numerious unauthorized charges and had to be replced. I would be a fool to trust paying the fee by cc again.
Point being ? tit for tat ? that I have to eat this chip ? I am just saying, all things considered, the money would be better spent towards a back up unit instead.
I appreciate Rands interest and presence here on this forum and the product itself. I am just think by voicing my experience with this new chip I can help fellow canadian truckers make a more informed decision and perhaps encourage Rand to provide better options.
Thank you

Did you ask them to ship it another method? I ship things to my testers all the time and almost no customs is paid. But, it is in the way you mark the Invoice that goes with the shipping doc.
Do you ever come through NC? If so ship it to my house and I can get it to you.
Just trying to say RM has no control over border customs and their charges...
Thanks,
Mark

You are too kind with your offer Mark; but as it is the chip is still in the hands of ups and will be on it's way back, and I have determined to follow my own advice and put the money to a backup unit instead. Rand did not provide any alternative option for shipping, nor did they state in advance that ups was the courier service to be employed. Thank you for all your help here on the truckers report.
