Android Truck Navigation?

I havent purchased yet but Copilot Live 8 for Truck is available on Android Market, People are complaining that it will not work when Car Docked, but from what I read, the app does not use the internet connection to work like Google and Sprint. Therefore, it would not need a car dock app, as you would be able to phone and use the internet while using Copilot anyway. I am waiting for someone that knows what they are talking about, or are not tech challenged, to review it honestly before I buy it. I have the Evo 4G and every car dock app I have seen for Android claims that it will not work with all Navigation apps. The only Nav program I have that completely does not drop phone calls is the Sprint Nav, which goes into a text direction type mode during a call. Currently I use Google Nav and My Rand McNally Atlas and the best one I have is called World Explorer,,,I can draw my own routes and choose which map I use and even use it offline by downloading maps before entering a known No service area.....It doesnt give directions but I can draw my own routes and follow it with ease...service or not...

 

I have the Copilot 8 Live navigation for android. I never had a problem with my Droid1 in the Moto car dock. Of course I ALWAYS exited the car dock app because it is stupid.

Currently running Copilot on my new HTC with an after market dock with no issues.

 

Thanks. I use Vlingo instead of a car dock. That way I can do everything my phone is capable of hands free. It even reads my email and messages and webpages to me. I use a Stereo Bluetooth headset so I get full audio from the device..something normal Bluetooth cannot do on an Android...... Thanks again...its nice to know it does work good. You should rate it on the market as it would really help to here how good it does work.

 

$149 is pretty steep for an app.

 

I have my cheap Co-Pilot set up for RV 13', strong favor Freeways and Devided Highways, favor primary roads, avoid secondary roads, and strongly avoid local streets. So far it has kept me on truck routs. Of coarse I check the tuck atlas to make sure.

 

I now have purchased the app and it is awesome. Moved it to my SD before downloading maps and I did not want it slowing down my phone by using up the memory. I have so far it more accurate than my Rand McNally and easier to reroute when thAT SMALL TOWN PUTS UP THAT NEW RESTRICTION. Setting up your preferences for the road type and speed really affects the routing. Great App.

 

how did you get the truck to download maps. cuz it don't work for me.

i had to have car installed and use that for maps download. truck just wouldn't do it AT ALL.

basically, you have to have car installed. then maps downloaded. then truck installed.
IN THAT ORDER. there's no getting around it.

in other words. the total cost for truck is $180. but that's still cheaper then an actual unit.

 

Man it took me a while but I found it under "Truck Routing GPS", not SmartTruckRoute.

 

co-pilot has an app for the androids that works. Like you have found, it's $149.

I have been using Google Navigation with my Droid 2 and it's been doing fine for me. You still have to use your head when you get real close to the destination, but you have to do that for any GPS system.

 

I use the less expensive CoPilot Live 4-wheeler version. Since I don't want to spring for the $149 truck version, I'll just use the RV routing option on my 4-wheeler version and set a height restriction

Premium version is $20 for US maps, $25 for US/Canada maps.
