i was wondering if anybody knew about a simple map program to run on a laptop that just shows all the truck routes, kinda like a trucker GPS unit but without the expensive receiver and automatic route planning malarky (i wanna plan my own route, not trust an electronic box)...the maps in Rand Mcnally book work nice, but aren't detailed enough when you get into a big city. if i miss a turn, i wanna be able to stop somewhere and see where i can go from there. i already have a garmin (car version, not for trucks) so i can always scroll through that and find a particular intersection, as long as i have a laptop map to show me what roads are legal for trucks. does anybody know of a simple program to use??

I use MapSource for my Garmin GPSV. When selecting a route on the GPS, it will offer me the option of a "truck route".

For the record, I have never used this feature and do not have any idea of how well it works. I just see that it's there when I use the GPS in my car.

Hope that gives you some help, but not sure that it does. :)
