Will evaluating a couple of Trucking GPS units they all did the same annoying thing

    [rant]
Announcing turns when you dont turn

If i am traveling on lets say I-90 for example, going thru multiple states why do I get informed of turns when I actually stay on the interstate and go forward.

From Omaha to Oakland is a straight shot why do I need to be warned about turning when i don have to?

Are you talking about turns off the ramps? or where the Freeway has a choice to either stay to the right or go to the left and split off? Most GPS will show this as a Junction View.

If the latter... the GPS does not have a camera to see what you see. It knows the Freeway is going to split and is informing you of this.

I see this a lot when you have a "Y" ahead of you.

    Thanks,
    Mark

For the same reason my routes me down a ramp, then back up the other side...when I set to shortest route LOL

    exit and "Y"

I think most of the issues is where you are on the interstate (I-80) and a highway (30) merges and you it announces to get on highway (30) then when the highway splits it tells you to turn on the Interstate (I-80) when you have not actually made any turns at all...

this scenario is just from memory but on my next trip i will right down specifics if you prefer

If it is with the TND, then yes I would love to know. If with the Cobra, then let Brian know on the Cobra thread.

But, yes a "Y" exit will tigger an annoucement.

But, again, in the map database how do they have that road tagged? that would take some details and then we can see how it is entered into the mapping database.

As for exits, all roads are build as segments into the mapping database and based upon that are given a "cost Factor" so to speak. The ramp may have a lower cost factor in the mapping database, so being a computer and following the program it routes that way.

If you are going around a curve it may have you get off a ramp and then back on. That is shortest and fastest to a computer, but the code is written to work around that. If you find the TND doing that, then let me know the information and we can verify the mapping database and how it is set up.

    Thanks,
    Mark
