Looking at purchasing a couple of these drives for a customer build. I have not used or purchased any of these drives yet. I usually install (any brand on sale) with 10000rpm drive for primary and then a bigger drive for storage.

What I'm looking for is, Have you purchased one ? What brand ? Any problems ? etc, etc. Let me hear your thoughts on these solid state drives.
    Thanks,
    RT

I've been debating these for my Macbook but the cost is still too much per MB.
I like the INTEL models but naturally they are among the most expensive.

All of the new Macbooks now come with only Solid State drives and if you want to upgrade beyond the paltry size that they come with..the price ZOOMS.

LMAO, I'm not buying 26 of them, though I wish I had a budget to buy that many........ :biggrin_25526:

I forgot about Samsung products and probably cheaper then Intel.

I think ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING is prolly cheaper than INTEL.

Tigerdirect.com sells many of these and most of the time they offer a 30day NO HASSLE return policy...you need to check BEFORE ordering as some items (like from IBM or HP) are not returnable...

I'm thinking that if I were to mount a laptop up front with one of those CyberTrucker mounts, a solid state drive would be more durable. Personally I put mine away and stash it the closet, if it were up front like that, I know I wouldn't have enough sense to leave the thing alone and probably eventually plow through stopped traffic.

The solid state drives are quite good. Much faster read/write speeds than mechanical drives. They aren't as subject to shock damage (vibrations and impacts) either.

Eventually the costs will come down as they become the standard.

I have a Toshiba laptop with one. It runs a lot faster especially on Windows 7 and XP. I no longer get error codes with it. If you don't know much about computers I would advise paying a computer shop to install it. You will need to make a mirror copy of the old hard drive. And if you have any error on the old hard drive you will have to fix it and then start all over again on making a mirror copy. Then when ever you have it put in NEVER run Difrag as it will damage your hard drive. It is especially better if you are into computer games.

i think a 10000 rpm normal HDD would be just fine. solid state is too expensive for the minimal performance you get from it. if the price comes down to the price of a normal rpm drive then sure ill think about getting one. but the 1 second you gain on boot up or the 1/16th you gain reading a fiel isnt worth the hundreds of dollars for the drive. plus the $$ to size ration is terrible.
