All;
I am looking for a company that makes a HID conversion kit (or can I simply change the bulb) for my Volvo VN780 (2007). I have done several searched on Google but possibly I am not using the correct search terms? I cannot seem to find a kit for the Volvo.
Anyone have a link or know a company that specializes in this conversion?
Thanks

Just get a standard conversion kit for your bulb style. Its not just a bulb they have a ballast for each bulb it takes the little bit of electricty the bulbs get from the truck and multiply it to charge the gas within the HID bulbs which creates light....
kits are around $150 last time I got one...

I was told coming back from my last trip from Nebraska that I had to get a "specific" Volvo conversion kit, so any of these would do? If so that make this problem real easy, thanks again AT. -
yep, there all universal (to your Headlight bulb type) so just buy the one with your bulb number and it'll be plug and play!
I've bought 3 kits for 3 differant cars, just becarefull there are allot of fake kits out there, there usually the $79.99 ones people try to sell next to the $175 ones lol

Ok, here it goes. To all who say that hid is bad and you can not see at night. To all who say that you'll get the CEL/similar with the hid. Plus, others. = you're wrong. 98% . I sell hid kits. I install hid kits. I also
Advice not to buy anything under $150 and above $300. Under $150 the quality is not there, over $300 is overpriced. Talking from personal experience here ; have two of my own cars, in which hid is installed as the low beam. One of my car's uses the same bulb for the
High and low beams bi's. - this car has the wiring harness and the kits are more expensive for this type of the set up. My Honda motorcycle has hid kit. My brothers acura has original crappy hid kit, which is going out soon. My fog lights have the hid kit. Now, my rig has the hid kit. Installed them all my self. Sell them too. Now, the brightness of the hid bulb will Be dependent on the kalvin temp of the light , not to be mistaken with the C or F temperature. Hid can be installed into any headlight that has the removable bulb. I have the 2007 Volvo vnl780 with the hid kit and had no need to go to the dealer to pay them for the reprograming truck's computer. That's another reason why the price was quated at the higher number. Kit carries 3 year warranty. Hid's work fine in the Projected or halogen headlights. -
If you want to use HIDs in your volvo, you need a software updation form volvo and you also need a bulb cancellor to save your bulbs from flickering.

Here's why your advice is wrong, and dangerous:
The filament in a halogen bulb emits light in a different pattern and intensity concentration than the arc bulb in an HID headlight assembly:
The left shows the shape and emission properties of a halogen filament, the right shows the shape and emission properties of an HID capsule arc.
The optics of the headlight housing are designed to redirect and distribute the light produced from each of the emitters respectively. They are quite different from each other. Using a bulb that's not designed for the housing will be a safety issue, as the light will either be insufficient for good visibility (already a problem with the Volvos), or will irritate and / or blind oncoming drivers.
Also, using the HID 'conversion' bulbs and ballasts as a drop in replacement for dual filament halogen bulbs will disable the high beam function. You will only have low beams.
Please do some research before recommending modifications to safety sensitive equipment on CMVs.Attached Files:
