Does anyone have any tricks or remedies to cool their lab tops? I have a mac book pro with a protective shell on it. When it becomes heated I use an ice pack with a cloth or towel raped over it to bring down the temperature. I find using the towel prohibits any condensation and just cools it.

I elevate mine, or lay 3/4 on a book(with vents hanging over side), as the cooling vents are on the bottom...

Yeah I have a protective shell under mine with lil holes which somewhat constricts air flow so i just tried out something new a few hours ago and it seems to be working. I'm not putting the ice pack directly under the unit so i should be safe, just wondering what you'd think about it safe or no? Your remedy seems to be comical also allowing more air to flow around the unit, thanks.

I use a blow gun every so often to get the dust out of it.

I think he means blowing the fans out.... I had to blow my fans out weekly when in the truck. Lots of static to attrack the dust.

when I had it on the cooling fans I kept a bounce sheet between the cooling fan and the laptop

    Thanks,
    Mark

yup thats what i meant. Turn it up side down an blow from both intake & exhaust side a few times, you'll be amazed at the dust that will come out!

When blowing out the dust be mindful those aerosol cans(if that's what you use like I do) can make the fan go faster than it's designed to and damage it...I usually stick a toothpick or similar in the vent to hold the fan still while I blow it out to avoid damaging it...

Good idea that everybody should do often but if you’re a smoker you will likely need to open the case up a physically wipe off the fan blades as they will be sticky.
