Does anyone have any tricks or remedies to cool their lab tops? I have a mac book pro with a protective shell on it. When it becomes heated I use an ice pack with a cloth or towel raped over it to bring down the temperature. I find using the towel prohibits any condensation and just cools it.

I elevate mine, or lay 3/4 on a book(with vents hanging over side), as the cooling vents are on the bottom...

Yeah I have a protective shell under mine with lil holes which somewhat constricts air flow so i just tried out something new a few hours ago and it seems to be working. I'm not putting the ice pack directly under the unit so i should be safe, just wondering what you'd think about it safe or no? Your remedy seems to be comical also allowing more air to flow around the unit, thanks.

walstib and hazevision4 Thank this.

Yeah i here that, blowing the unit off reducing fan resistance from dust good idea.

I think he means blowing the fans out.... I had to blow my fans out weekly when in the truck. Lots of static to attrack the dust.
when I had it on the cooling fans I kept a bounce sheet between the cooling fan and the laptop
Thanks,

When blowing out the dust be mindful those aerosol cans(if that's what you use like I do) can make the fan go faster than it's designed to and damage it...I usually stick a toothpick or similar in the vent to hold the fan still while I blow it out to avoid damaging it...
bullhaulerswife and trucker_101 Thank this. -
