I have the Rand 710. If I had it to do again I would get the 500. Only difference is the screen size. The 710 is just really big.
In combination the GPS, Road Atlas, Qualcom directions, Google Earth really give you a great idea of where, what and how.
Just a newbs 2 cents.bigmikectn Thanks this. -
i was looking at the 2 new ones. one from garmin and one from magellin both for commercial trucks.

The GPS is a tool to be used along with your atlas and the driver has the final say-so in routing.
Remember not all Maps databases are perfect nor will they ever be.
Road restrictions are being added all the time and road restrictions may have never gotten into the databases for one reason or another.
If you find a road restriction that is not in the map database, by all means let the navigation device company know. This only helps all drivers in the end.
Remember not all road restrictions will have posted signs either.
Slamming the navigation companies for missing restrictions will not resolve the issue. Communications will. But, understand that it takes time to verify the restriction and get it into the map databases.
It always pays to be on the latest map database also. Many times at truck shows I find drivers with maps a few years old. The restrictions they mention were corrected.
Map Database companies understand that the map data they put out reflects directly on how you do your job. But, verification and placement does take time to correct.

I use co pilot on my iphone. It's a paid app designed for truck use, but since it's on my phone it stays updated. That being said, if I am going some place I have never been before, I always check my atlas, verify with google maps, then put the address in my gps app last.
