| GPS with Truck Routes Hello, I have a quick question. Are there any GPS units have Truck Route maps for the United States built in? Or can they be purchased or downloaded. I did an extensive Internet search, and I was unable to find any information on portable GPS units with truck routes. I know Laptop software is available, but I need a portable GPS unit. Thanks for your help and time. |

| Garmin Garmins (particularly the 2730, 2820, 7200 & 7500) have a truck setting that will (for the most part) keep you out of trouble. I bought one two months ago and I have found it accurate for low bridges and weight restricted roads but needs some work for local truck restricted routes. You will STILL need your Rand-McNally to suppliment it.

| Thank you for the reply about the GPS What Garmin model do you have? Do you know where on the Internet I can read up on models with ‘Truck Routes’? It doesn’t have to be Garmin, any brand will do just as long it is portable and not laptop software. Also which is the cheapest one with the 'Truck Route' function? You know as well as I, when you're first starting off cutting corners is very important when it comes to saving money. If you have any more hints, tips or any advise I would appreciate it. Thanks. |

| I have the 2730. It runs about $500. The others run up to $1500. If you are going to go the GPS route, you do not need to go cheap -- you need to go reliable. If you cannot afford a good one, just stick with the ole Rand-McNally. You can search this or the other trucker forums under Garmin and find a lot of posts about them.

| Not sure what you mean by truck routes. The big models 7200 & 7500 are designed for bigger vehicles - rv's and trucks. Google their names to get alot more info. And not sure what you mean by portable. Portable in the GPS world means handheld, as used by hikers. ALso look in the electronics forums below. Last edited by Captain67; 03.05.2007 at 07.47 PM.. |

| I laughed out loud when you compared the Garmin tech support to Dell tech support. I've been going in circles with dell for quite sometime now (what a joke), but that's a another story. You stated you had the Garmin 2730. Can you program your in own route so it will talk to you as it comes up on the screen? That way it's not how the computer wants you to go, it's how you want to go. Also where did you purchase your Garmin 2730? Walmart has that model for about $740.00 with tax and shipping. You stated that you payed about $500.00. Did you buy your new, used or refurbished? Thanks again for your help. |
