Since i don't have a Road-relay and i don't want to shell out $1000 for one, Ive been looking around and came across this thing called the ScangaugeD.
It plugs into your J1708 or j1939 data plug in your truck. it can display tons of information your ECM transmits...my data plug is mounted to the bottom of the dash and the scangauge plug would fall out..so i took the plug out and hooked the scangauge up and mounted it so it lies flat inside and on the floor of the dash and zip tied them together and to the dash so it wont flop around while driving. I paid $160 for it at campers world. i have 2 extra toggle switch holes on my dash, so i opened one up a little to fit the plug and mounted the display on my dash. here are a couple pics showing the gauge installed and working...2 cool!

I've been meaning to order one after a guy on the Landstar forum got one. Did they have it in stock, or have to order it?

where i live, they had 1 in stock. I'm thinking of cutting the double end plug off and installing a weather pack type connector instead of the zip tied together job i got going on now.

Looks like a good install job, you didn't have a lot of free space on the height it looks like.

it just fits between the rows of toggle switches...thankfully, the gauge has a plug on the back and the side. I used the back plug and i have a huge box of black cork A/C insulation tape so i used that to "stick" it to the dash..sorta semi permanent...the problem i had was the J1708 plug faces down towards the floor and the SGD plug is just a push in type..so the first big bump, pothole etc..the plug falls out and all your data is lost. i found locking ring type connectors you could use, but why not just change the plugs and use a locking weather pack type anyway? if Cummins needs to access my ECM, they can use the plug(s) on the engine harness.

I'm looking at getting one of these after the newer versions come out. Kevin Rutherford is working with the scan gauge company to create a version that is more orientated towards drivers.

Well, went out to the truck an plugged it it. Then re-plugged it in. Then again. Finally gave up , and unplugged it.
It's snowing . I have to get out of the truck to plug it in. I'm sitting still. It loses the connection , cause it won't lock. And that 2 sided plug is a PITA ! Too darn big , for the space available.
It wouldn't stay connected long enough to do the basic setup .
Already trying to figure out where I can get a 9 pin connector , and how to wire it.
Im sure it will void any warranty , but I really want the darn thing to work !
I want to be able to monitor my oil temp , boost pressure , MPG , and a slew of other info I'm sure is available from the ECM.
    darn it !

I asked for the pin layout and I cut the plug and receptacle off and used connectors. Here's the color code for the 6 pin:

    J1708 data+ ORANGE

    J1708 data- YELLOW

    Power GREEN

    Ground BLACK

    hope this helps!

thanks for the reply. I use the 9 pin side . Do you know if the color coding is the same , on both the truck , and the scangauge D ? Appears to be 6 active pins on the Scangauge D .
