Currently considering to buy a new GPS device.
Narrowed it down to only 2 devices: the Garmin 760 and the RM TM720.

I've owned and used 2 Garmins so far, the streetpilot 330 and the 465T.
Quite frankly....I'm not too impressed by the 465T and wonder what Garmin has been doing since the streetpilot 330.

That's the reason why I would walk away from Garmin and opt for the Rand McNally without shedding a tear :)

On the other hand, I do want the best GPS out there.

Are there any members here that have experiences with both devices and can help me to make the right choice?

Rand McNally truckers atlas 2013. And if you still really want one a Garmin. Better quality and very little issues

pcmiler. don't even need the atlas.

only reason mine gets used is for the additional information it provides.

    Guys....read the question again.
I'm asking advice between 2 GPS devices, not atlasses (which by the way I also use)
    Thank you

I use the RM 720. It is my first truck GPS, but I really like the features and it has a great support thread on this site. Large display for these aging eyes. It references the atlas so you can cross check, too. I like that you can put your truck information in (wt, length, height) and it will "assist" in keeping you honest. You still have to make the final call. I really like the speed limit detail. You set how much over before "#####in' Betty" warns you and it also warns you of upcoming speed decreases. Is it perfect? Nope, but it has been a great aid for trip planning and keeping up some situational awareness.

    Just my $.02

I had a Rand McNally TND 500 for many years now. The reason I chose the Rand McNally over the Garmin at that time was because Lifetime update were free with the Rand Mcnally and $100+ for the Garmin. Originally the Rand Mcnally was horrid. Many times I felt like running over a few times. But slowly it got better with the updates. Customer support at that time was great. They always had an answer and were glad to be of help.
Then a couple months ago I called to ask when my next map upgrade was coming out and was told that they were not updating mine anymore because the maps were too large, they did tell me the would sell me the new TND 720 for $200 and give me the lifetime upgrades with that.
I told them I didn't have it then but would take them up on their offer when I did. They said fine, the offer would be good when I was ready. Well to make a long story short. I'm ready now and they refuse to honor the deal. So I guess when they say lifetime upgrades they mean the lifetime of their honesty. Which because they have grown so quickly, didn't last long.
I would suggest that you take the Garmin. At least they were honest and charged for the upgrades from the git go.
My new gps will be a Garmin.

Lifetime updates are for the life of the Model, not your lifetime. This is true with any device.

In another thread you only mentioned Updates, not map updates. Map update unless you bought LTM's are not free.

You mentioned you did this several months ago - why the time lag in posting here? When you find something out, post it here or E-Mail me directly. Usually I can resolve issues when they happen, but things tend to gray out after a few months.

    Thanks,
    Mark

On another note... Driver, E-Mail/PM me your Name/phone/E-mail address. This issue of the trade in has been resolved on RM's end.

    thanks,
    Mark

I am contemplating this exact purchase right now as I am in need of another "truckers GPS" and though I have not used either the Garmin Dezl 760 or the Rand McNally TM720 I do have some experience and use with both companies.

My first purchase of a "truckers GPS" was probably 8 years ago on more (can't remember exactly when I bought it but I paid over $800 for it at Best Buy at the time ) which was the Garmin Nuvi 660 and about 16 months ago I purchased the 7 " screen Rand McNally TND710. BOTH will get you on illegal roads for big trucks but I will definately buy the Garmin brand from now on because of durability, and no matter how good a GPS is it's not worth anything if it doesn't work and this is the reason I will be buying the Garmin because my old old Nuvi 660 STILL WORKS after all those years and my Rand McNally TND710 after less than 18 months does not.

My Rand McNally TND710 has the SAME problem I have seen so many others complain about, the power connection is faulty and won't charge the GPS unit and the SPEAKER quit working so it's worthless and it doesn't work, I also sent a couple of emails to Rand McNally to see if I could get it fixed, never heard back from them.

    just my .02
