I bought an Oreck Air purifier that worked great until the top melted. Obviously, there is some major incompatibility with the inverter.
I can run my tea kettle fine so I'm sure it is not an issue with not enough power.
What would cause this?
I need to buy another one and want to make sure I don't have the same problem.

What kind of inverter are you using? if its not pure sine wave it will keep doing this.
-
I can look at it later but quite sure it is not a sine wave.
Is there some kind of "filter" I can use? -
Any filter that you try to use will cost more than the difference between a pure sine and modified sine inverter. And its performance will change dependent on load. Modified sine wave works well for devices that use switching power supplies, but not so much for devices with electric motors, or microwaves.
You want something like this:

Zen Trucker Thanks this. -
Variable speed fan motors don't like modified sine waves. You need a pure sine wave inverter.
Cobra is a modified sine wave. Every pure wave inverter I've seen says it right on the inverter. Amazon sells pure sine wave inverters. -
IMO (and just my opinion) xantrex is the only way to go.

Thank you all for your input.
