Hey all, my boss just bought all the drivers new Stratus 6 Sirius players for our trucks as a Christmas gift. I think I figured out pretty much everything except for mounting the antenna. The manual states the antenna needs a clear signal in all directions so I'm trying to figure out the best place for it. I'm in a 387 expedite truck, the box is right behind the sleeper. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated! Let me know where you've mounted yours and how it works for you!

There's no easy solution that looks decent for a 387.
Does your factory truck radio have satellite on it? Then you can use an antenna splitter adapter off of it.
The thing about them mirrors is you just have a lower bracket at an angle which you could cable tie it on but it's kind of tacky looking and could block the signal heading a certain direction.
Superglue it to the top?
I doubt you have the cable length to reach the top front of the box but that would be idea. They might make an extension cable. You might penetrate the sleeper up high behind the trim and run it across the ceiling tucked behind the trim and down the side windshield pillar. There might be enough length that way.
Another option is mount it to the center bracket on the sun visor where your clearance lamps are. You can feed the wire through the door and down the pillar trim.
I know they make a home kit antenna that is kind of like the one you have but it's attached to a base and it swivels. That base mounts with 4 screws and you could angle the antenna in case of an uneven mount.
Here's the home kit. It's on sale too. Look at the antenna on the left in the picture. That opens up some new mounting ideas. I guess your boss plans on them radios staying with the truck so he might let you do a permanent antenna install. Just silicone your holes. Then you use the vehicle antenna for your home kit.

Double Sided Foam Tape Works Great on the Miror
Used to be able to get 3M Supermount Tape at Radio Shack.
Will also work great for 'sticking' the Stratus on the Dash.CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
Yes with the double sided tape. Run the wire behind the mirror inside the unit to the bottom. Then come out and run the wire along the post. Once you get it inside tuck it into the weather stripping, roll the excess up in the glove box and out to the unit.

I got a 3 inch plate with a hole in it sold at pilot. You can screw the plate in under your CB antenna. It doesn't look to bad. Other options are super gluing it to the roof (since the roof is prob not magnetic.) Witht he miror mount plate, I have only lost reception one when i was in between tall trees. It works pretty well there. Of cource you can always buy one of those supper big antennas that are like 55 bucks that mount on the mirror, but that's kind of pricey.

I use an antenna meant for inside a home, about 4in square plastic. I have it on the dash of my W/Star and it works great.

I found my old antennas if you want one of them EM. I have the Wilson stick antenna and a home antenna too. I have no use for them anymore.
Here is a pic of my old Pete. You can see where the factory put their antenna up by the clearance lights. It's hardly noticeable from eye level.

maybe thats what I might do if it works well, downside of these newer freightliners I have is that the mirrors dont have bars anymore to mount something and i do not want to buy the special bracket you can get.
