I have a laptop and I need a internet connection as a I travel. My cell phone offers a mobile hotspot but its $5 a day, and I think that's somewhat expensive.. Another carrier has a mobile hotspot for about $40 a month (cricket wireless). would it be smarter to get some sort of gas station wifi plan? If so which one? What is the current best solution for truckers?

    Hotspot.

Don't know about Gas Station Wifi.
Truckstop Wifi is not that cheap, and mostly worthless.

I have a Sprint phone on contract and have the hotspot on my phone at a cost of $20 a month for 6gb a month. My coverage its good at every ts I've been at.

I have Sprint and tried the hotspot, it was terrible especially out west. I use truckstop wifi, TA sucks at night but is usually ok during the day, pilot is alot better as is Loves, but I mostly fuel at TA and use points to pay for my wifi there each month.

Some Love's have McDonald's where wifi is free. I noticed that Love's wifi subscription is $149/year, but I don't know how good the signal is.

My Verizon is not cheap, 10gigs/mo for $150, but it's 4G and dependable.

This has been discussed many times here. There are threads that have cheaper options and involve Verizon reseller. No contract, no real costly setup fees. Millinecom
