Hey guys, I got my first smart phone a few months ago and went with a Windows phone because I like the layout and my step dad works for Microsoft and was always showing off his phones to me.

I was completely unaware that there was such a lack of apps to the phone though.

Have any of you guys found good driver apps for the windows phone operating system? I don't really need any apps, but they sure would be nice to have.

    Thanks.

I also have a windows phone and I agree with you about the lack of apps on the phone. I haven't found one good driver app yet for the windows phone.

You're pretty much screwed. Sorry. as far as I know you don't even have an option for Google Maps which is far superior to any built in maps feature or Microsoft mapping options available. I ran Windows Phone for a long time reluctant to make the move to iPhone, but did move to iPhone about 1.5 years ago and I'm so glad I did. When you decide to bail on Windows, if you can afford an iPhone I highly recommend this over Android. You won't be sorry. The added up-front cost is well worth it.

Android vs. iPhone is highly subjective. I used an iPhone for three years and loved it. I switched to Android about three years ago, and now you'd have to pay me to take another iPhone.

From a hardware/software standpoint, the two are pretty much the same. iPhone screens are generally smaller, but the rumor mill says there's going to be a 4.7" iPhone 6. All the big apps are on both platforms.

The main difference is in the company's approach to the user. Apple wants you to get every app through their store. To install something from another source, you have to "jailbreak" your phone, which Apple fights you on. Every new iOS update requires the hackers to figure out how to jailbreak your phone all over again. (Who knows what else they break in the process.) Android? Go to the settings menu, and check the box to allow you to install third party apps. Install your app, uncheck the box, and your security is re-established.

Apple is the McDonald's of the smartphone world. They were here first. Here's your food; enjoy. Don't like the iOS keyboard? Too bad; that's the one we offer.

Android is the Burger King of the smartphone world. Have it your way! Don't like the Android keyboard? Download another one!

Android + root access = custom made burger on the back yard grill! :)

iPhone/iPad does not need to be jailbroken near as much as a few years ago. Apple has stolen just about every good app or tweak created by the jailbreak community and rolled it into iOS as if they created it. I have no problem with iPhones except for the small screen size. After using a larger display like a Galaxy Note 2 or 3, it makes the iPhone screen appear so tiny. If Apple came out with iPhone with a 5.5-6 inch screen, I would give it a look. One plus about most Apple products is they retain a higher percentage of its resale value as compared to other similar manufacturers. Any driver using the iOS or Android platform will have plenty of apps to choose from. Not true with a Windows phone or even a Blackberry.

I just appreciate Apples devotion to stable apps and no (or minimal) BS in the coding of apps that run on their phones. Android has almost ZERO quality assurance and testing standards to approve an app. Android OS in and of itself is prone to many flaws and weaknesses in it's open design and minimal testing standards. I find this more of a problem for users then a positive. That said, I understand and know Android has more market share ... but like they say, you want to save bucks? expect to pay in usability. I refuse to tote around what amounts to a small computer in my pocket or on the side of my face on a phone call. Some of these "phone" designs are crazy TOO big.

Is this your opinion as a consumer or someone who can code software? If your statement about the Android platform were even partially accurate, they would not own 85+% and growing market share. Apple has not had anything innovative since Steve jobs passed away almost three years ago. Apple is no longer the leader in smartphones, they are a follower. They will come out with bigger screen phones because many people want them, and it has cut deeply into their once dominant marketshare by not staying ahead of the curve. Any Android phone that is not pure Android, like a Nexus, can be prone to the errors caused by bloatware added to the device by each cell provider. That is not an Android issue, it is a carrier issue. Easily fixable with rooting and removing all the bloatware.

I can understand someone not wanting a larger screen phone. I use a Galaxy Note 3 (fully rooted and customized) mounted on the dash of my car or truck to function as more than a phone. The screen size is large enough to see traffic, weather, etc details when mounted 2.5 feet from me without straining my eyes. I rarely talk on the phone without a headset. Only a portion of Android based phones have screens above 5 inch diameter.

Do not take this as I am an Apple hater. Not at all. The only product I have parted ways with Apple is the phone due to screen size. I have iMac, Macbook Air, several iPads for the family. If a large screen iPhone comes out, I will consider it, and jailbreak it.

    wanttotruck Thanks this.

You have obviously never developed an app to run on iOS. The hardest part of iOS app development is shoveling through all the BS that Apple makes the developer go through if they want their app to be "blessed" by the gods of Apple and put on the app store. It's not like a developer can simply put their app on their own web page and let i* users run it.

Oh, and you have to develop your app in the Apple-specific nonstandard variant of C that their SDK uses.

And starting with iOS 8, you need to learn yet another programming language (named Swift) that is Apple proprietary.

And one other thing... their SDK only runs on a Macintosh.

    Enough BS for you?

Which is the way it should be. If an Android app is a true piece of crap, it will get voted down so quickly that it'll never see the light of day again.
