I was just wondering about any of you drivers that might be internet gamers. My two boys and I have enjoyed hooking up online and gaming when I am out of town in a hotel. Now I can get good high speed in a hotel which is a must for internet gaming. I am about to go on the road driving and I was wondering if any of you game when sitting in a truck stop. Questions:

    Do you game?

If so what ISP do you use? Verison/Cingular/Sprint?

Do you find it too laggy for gaming?

Well I am about to head of too school on Saturday. But, I have every intiention of playing on line.. since that is where my son and wife play most of the time. Right now they play RYL2, BF2, MoHa Spearhead(yea i know its really old), and if things work out maybe a few new games that I have not been able to purchase.

This could be interesting, I love working with setting up game servers and such. I could possiably in a few years set up dedicated servers for truckers and trucker families only.:biggrin_2559: Of course the servers would be a third party setup and not one on the road or my house.

I knew there had to be at least one driver out there besides me. I do run a server hosting my website and blog. It is also currently serving up HL2 but we switch the game around some. It is located in Ohio at an ISP. My biggest concern however is the latency I can expect using Cingular, Sprint or Verison as my WiFi provider. I had two of my driver friends ping my server while on the road. One was in Atlanta using Alltel and got a 450 ping. that is bad. The other was in Kansas using Sprint and had a 199 ping. Again not real good but still playable if not on an FPS.

I am still hoping to hear from other drivers out there.

Forget gaming on the truck stop WiFi between about 6 PM and 2 AM. It's overloaded with all the drivers watching Netflix and downloading pr0n.

Gaming is possible on other WiFi systems. McDonald's has AT&T WiFi, which isn't bad. Other places, like Target and The Home Depot, have free WiFi that often extends out into the parking lot.

As for using the cell networks... I've heard people using them with good results. Of course, it depends on the game you're playing.

Verizon works flawlessly almost everywhere, if you don't mind the bill..

I used Verizon for World of Warcraft in 2008. It had no problem with blizz updates.
