Head Up Display (HUD)?

Got enough crap on this truck making it break down...doesn't need anymore crap on it to put it in a shop...

 

Most truck drivers are not educated enough to understand how to work with HUD. Many of them can not read road signs, old style gauges
They don't know why truck is not running without fuel. Diagnostic functions will blow their brain out.

 

Let's be real, it's not like it's common in cars. I had it in my 2013 Camaro and loved it and would have it in my F150 if Ford offered it but they don't. Neither do most auto makers. It's coming but it's just not that common yet.

Theres nothing to know or learn, it's not rocket science, it's just a display and it wouldn't effect a vehicles mechanical ability. It's basic info like your speed and what gear your in plus it displayed my next turn if I were using the nav. HUD can be turned off with the dimmer switch that adjusts its brightness.

 

See you're not familiar with freightliners policy of "if we can find a way to make it breakdown, and take the whole truck with it- we will implement it without testing."

 

I can see it coming off as a driver distraction. CR England used the area where you check your mpg and idle time as a way to spam the driver. Found it very annnoying that useless info was scrolling across. If companies can spam you there, what is to keep them from spamming the HUD?

A hud could be useful if it did things like let us see in the fog or snow. The downside is that the supertruckers would use it as an excuse to go faster in poor conditions. Most drivers dont really need the info if they truly know their truck. Besides, the driver is supposed to do the "head bob". The head bob is checking all your mirrors and a glance at the dash every 10-15 seconds. Take the head bob away and you promote driver fatigue as the driver wouldnt need to look around and pay attention to what is around them. No thankyou, I would much rather something more practical, like a larger inverter in the cab so we dont need to go buy one. The newer style of cruise control is a step in the right direction, where if a car driving slower merges into your lane, the cruise will try to lower your speed automatically with out you needing to get on the brakes.

 

THere are few cars with HUD, but it's a good idea, IMO! But for trucks, it's a cost that big carriers are not interested in

 

Depends on the company? Mine has large inverters (Which also run in reverse if you plug the truck into 120.) And the active cruise control system. I will say its not an improvement. The system will detect stupid stuff like a car getting on an off ramp and slow the truck down or worse. Slam on the brakes.

 

Whoa.... did I miss something ? Did you just say the latest Vorad type system is tied to the brakes? So if it detects something it brakes ? That's not real smart........

Follow me here..... rolling along, flat land interstate and it's raining, moderately... and I get passed by whoever big truck and he cuts back too tight......happens all the time......so the system detects this and the brakes come on? Really? How bout same scenario on snow, snowing, ice.?

Are you kidding? So when this happens and you're thrown into a skid / wreck ( if you survive ) just whom is responsible for the accident ? You the driver? But you didn't touch anything.......

So set me straight....

 

The system we have on our trucks is by bendix called wingman. Its an active cruise control system and tries to prevent reending and roll over.

If you take a corner too fast it kills power.
If it feels you are catching up to a car too fast it will beep, Then beep more, Then beep even more then apply the brakes.
If someone pulls in front of you but pulls away it doesn't do anything.
If someone pulls in front of you then slows down it may brake (depending on distance and speeds etc.)

I swear the system is going to give me whiplash. Its not being installed on our new trucks.
