I use a Koolatron in my truck, but only use it 10 hours a day. Sometimes (summer) I use it for cold, but mostly I have it on the heat setting to keep my lunch warm. Havent had any problems with it yet, but I dont use it all the time!

I've got one of the new 40 qt. Coleman's (the silver/black one) and I'm not at all happy with it. This is the 4th one I've had in a year and they keep failing for different reasons. This latest hasn't failed yet, but I'm pretty skeptical and wouldn't be surprised if it did fail soon. Although, now that I'm local I won't be using it every day.

Crow I had an old blue one that was great. Had 2 or 3 of the ones your talking about now. Had to take them back and went with an igloo. The new colemans are junk!

I never had a problem with the blue/white one. Unfortunately, I sold it prior to taking the job with Anheuser Busch and the Clydesdales last year.

I too bought a 40 quart Coleman. The first cord blew 2 fuses then got so hot it literally melted the plug in adapter. I called Coleman direct and they sent me a new cord. After installing the new cord and discovering the cheap wiring underneath had actually been pierced by the screws holding the outer housing on I ran electrical tape around the wiring and it worked fine for about a month. The cooler then starting making a grinding noise as if ice had built up and the fan blades were chipping it away. I called coleman again and actually put the phone beside the motor so the rep could hear the noise. They immediately sent me a new cooler from the factory which so far is working just fine.
So my suggestion is be sure to call Coleman the next time you have a problem (as long as it is within 1 year of purchase price it should be under warranty). They have been very helpful to me so far.

I know another driver that went thru 5 of them. He kept taking them back. He got an igloo and has not had any problems. Too many of them are defective.

My coleman took a dump on me as well. The outside fan quit. I went to bestbuy bought a 4.5in computer fan. I also bypassed the thermal interupt.
Now the thing works like a champ. Didnt work this good when it was new.
The only problem is that I can not put the cover back on cause the fan is too big. But it works great..

my first coleman 40 quart lasted three months and then just turned warm

i then got an igloo koolmate, that lasted a good year, then quit

now i have a coleman 40 qt again, and it is working great, it froze water a week ago

i think they have a lifespan of about a year, then figure getting a new one
