If you go with the Pro-97 or something like that you can hook it up to a computer and program it, that makes it pretty easy
-
What do you mean by 800 Range?
Price or 800mhz Capable (they all are now).
It says Trucking Industry, I'm assuming you're not a driver?
For a driver I would not reccomend anything less than
GRE PSR 500
Uniden BCD 396t
or Radio Shack Pro 96.
With so much p25 Stuff out there now....
Or if your area is digital then you'll need one of those.
For Analog Scanners.
Pro 97/Uniden 246t/GRE PSR 300
Watch for the rebanding on 800mhz on MOT TRS on the Pro97s.
Also for Truckers the Mobile Versions would prolly be a bit better. -
I mean 800mhz and I should have also said Digital. Can I program a Pro 96 digital scanner off my computer? I have a disk that is a couple of years old called ( Mr Scanner ). Thanks.

The Best sofrware for the Pro96 is Win96.
made by starrsoft.
simple and easy to use...I think it's like 19 or 29.
I wont post a link b/c of the weird link policy.
Just google Starrsoft Win96.
I actually have a Pro96 along with a 396, and a few older scanners. -
Most have the 800mhz range on them. You should get one though that has a truck tracker capability since alot of law enforcement agencies are switching to this technology. Basically when they key up and talk they will be on one frequency and when they key up and talk again they will be on another yet still getting thru to the person they are talking too. Kind of hard to explain.

If you are looking for a scanner to use while driving, I would avoid a Digital scanner for now as they aren't worth it. They are high priced and there aren't many places using digital as of yet to negate the cost. Pretty much anything you want to listen to right now can be heard from a decent trunking scanner. I personally I have a pro-96 and yes it can be programmed by computer, I hardly use it anymore as I have a Bearcat BCT-8 in my truck. That has trunking capabilities and can be programmed from a computer.

That will prolly be most of the scanning you will do while on the road.
More and more places are going to P25 though.
Besides that most of the Digital Capable Scanners have other features which alone would make it worthwile to get one over an analog model. -
know, before you get into the scanner business, they are illegal in some states. The main one I can remember is KY.You may want to check the laws where you run,jst in case..
