Dell deceived customers, judge says

Dell deceived customers, judge says

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Dell Inc. deceived customers in a massive "bait and switch" scheme to increase sales of its computer and electronic products, a New York state judge ruled Tuesday.
State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo sued Dell in 2007 on behalf of hundreds of customers who claimed that the electronics company lured them into buying products with promises of attractive deals and promotions.

In reality, the lawsuit alleged, most customers were denied or misled into believing that they had been approved for low interest or financing rates.
The lawsuit also accused Dell of depriving customers of technical support that they were entitled to, in some instances, by pressuring them into performing repairs on their own or subjecting them to long wait times on the phone. Watch Cuomo detail the complaints »
In a 26-page decision, Supreme Court Justice Joseph C. Teresi found in favor of the consumers.

I could talk either way on this ruling since I worked there for many years. My stint in sales was at the very end of working for dell. I only worked sales for a couple of months to see how the mechanics of it was working. My primary job was a dell certified technician.
The company sent out bulk mail promising 0% interest free. What most consumers failed to read was the small print. Your credit had to be excellent to receive the 0% interest free. Just like the auto makers when they offer the 0% interest free. Though I will admit, it is a good tactic if you want to make the phones ring. You always knew when these were hitting the mailboxes. Nearly half of the consumers that called, never qualified because of poor or bad credit. We never seen any of the credit reports, it was done by a third party of dell. This is probably where dell is in trouble. Some people disagreed and have said they had good credit. Some I believed and some I could tell they were lying. Some were plain stupid for even calling.......
