I don't know if it is called a chill pad, but I recently bought a fan.
It sits under my laptop, has dual fans, and plugs into a usb port for power.
So far, it works quite well. My computer still gets a bit warm, but no longer gets HOT when I have it running for a long period of time.

Civilservant Thanks this. -
Yes, I would recommend using a fan pad under a laptop.

I have looked at some local places for a chill pad, my only problem is no one seems to have any that fit a wide screen laptop nicely.

I've had this Dell laptop since 2002. It has a built in fan. I have it sitting on an old baking rack that puts it approx. 3/4 inch above the top of the desk. I don't see any need to invest in these extra fans, but maybe I'm wrong...

My laptop is a cheapo model, no built in fan. While on the truck, only flat tabletop surface to place it on, thus my need for a fan pad.

I was just wondering if any one else had tried these new items because i think their great I owned a Compaq for five years now and it has an internal fan, but the processor gets pretty hot while on my bed or lap and I already replaced the motherboard once. The chill pad i just bought seems to keep it ten times cooler and hopefully makes it last longer.

Things have come a long way in 5 years, as far as cooler running tech.
I use a simple rest with a grilled surface. Never have the issues I had with my older laptop. -
I've been looking around for a new one but as long as my old one still works I don't see the point, but if It dies again on me again i probably buy a new one with warranty.
