IMO = In My Opinion...I'm very happy with Sprint. I'm very happy with the service. I'm very happy with the cost associated each month. This is my personal opinion. I don't need to bash another to validate my point to myself...take it with a grain of salt.
3.14 I don't use an aircard. I use my Blackberry as the aircard for my laptop. There are other Sprint phones that will allow you to accomplish this. Just a thought maybe to help cut costs. -EJ

Let me offer some more empirical data here. There is rarely a day that goes by where I don't "connect" remotely to a driver's laptop out on the road in order to help him or her with a computer issue or a GPS issue, etc. And there is never a day that goes by where we aren't talking to a driver who is using a cell phone.
In terms of pricing, "in general" you are going to pay $59 for limited air-card usage these days. If you are grandfathered in on one of the "unlimited" plans then consider yourself lucky and beware that if you get and updated card they are usually going to "UN-grandfather" you and you will go onto the limited plan.
In terms of connectivity (both voice and data card) there are clear differences between the providers. Nearly EVERY time that I have a crappy connection to a driver's computer remotely, and nearly every time that their cell phone cuts out on me, it isn't Verizon. In "second place" comes Sprint. AT&T and T-Mobile come in substantially behind those two.
Now there are lots of examples where you will hear, "My <insert brand name here> phone or aircard words really well..." I'm just saying that I ASK every time a driver has a particularly good, or a particularly bad, connection and Verizon clearly has stronger signals, wider coverage areas, and faster data rates at this time - and a fairly substantial gap between the others too (including Sprint.)
There are a couple of other providers out there but they are so few and far between that I don't have enough examples to give you additional reviews on them in comparison the "big 4" mentioned above.
Hope that helps a bit from an actual "scientific" study.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
I have an AT&T cell phone and a Verizon USB 760 modem...I have internet in places that my cell phone won't work...lots of places.
5gb limit yes...but I don't notice it.Dieselboss Thanks this. -
I sold all three services (Verizon, Sprint and AT&T) at one time or another. Verizon is the best followed closely by AT&T followed by Sprint.
Sprint does have higher data rates if you are in an area that has a digital tower. If not... so sorry.
Verizon has the best coverage because they've been doing this much longer than the other two, and have had more time to acquire tower sites, install and upgrade equipment. If I recall correctly they were Airstream way back in the electronic dark ages.
AT&T dumped their old system a number of years back, selling it off in pieces. They got back into the game by acquiring Cingular - so that's what they started with - again.
Sprint is good as long as you're in a major metro area or along a major road - especially if there is a major rail corridor nearby. They don't have the cash flow to catch up with the other two, but make do as best they can. Acquiring NEXTEL was a huge mistake financially for Sprint, and don't plan on the technologies to merge anytime soon - too many differences. -

But for some reason, in the past 3 months, our bill reflected $200+ in roaming charges while in that area. (which we have to fight every month those charges!)
As I stated before, as soon as our contract with Sprint ends, we WILL be switching carriers.

Judi Kay,
I'm not trying to play salesman (no offense meant to any of you that are salesmen)...but I take my internet seriously. Meaning if it don't work I find what will.
I'm very satisfied with the Verizon USB760 modem...have not found a place yet that it wont get connected. With that said, its not always on an EvDo(RevA) connection (thats the really fast connection)...if you're way out in the sticks it gets a slower connection, but not so slow that its a problem (still pretty fast really)
At one time or another, I've had them all...Cingular was pretty good until AT&T took them over. I tethered my cell to my laptop using one of Cingulars PDA plans.
The Verizon USB760 is waaaay better...and it is handy as a storage device too (4gb...thats a lot of music and pictures)
A tad pricey for the plan at $60 a month...but it has proven to be worth it to me, YMMV.
Just thought I'd pass that along to you...
ETA: The USB760 costs $99...with the contract.Last edited: Sep 1, 2009

I love my Sprint service and since I still have the unlimited plan I won't be changing carriers anytime soon. I often use well over 150MB every day just streaming 7hrs of radio programs. Then you add youtube and Hulu and my usage is almost 10GB a month. I have had several times when my AT&t phone would barely work yet I've got 4-5 bars of EVDO A on aircard. I almost went with AT&T for my aircard because of my horrible experiences with Sprint in the 90's but I'm glad I did.
