Brian I have a PCMiler gps right now but I am very unhappy with it. You don't have to go into all details but could you just give me a few reasons why I might want to switch to the Cobra gps? Thanks

I don't have any direct comparison info, but probably the biggest differences are our larger screen and our use of ProMiles routing data. A breakdown of our features can be viewed here:

Brian I purchased your product yesterday. I am pretty impressed with it but have one suggestion and one complaint that I think can be easily corrected.

    First the suggestion:

It would be a nice feature if we could actually plan a trip... in other words enter our trip info to also take into account driving a max of 11 hours then a 10 hour break. It would give a more "realistic" trip being that it wouldn't factor the trip as if it could be driven straight through without stopping once.

    The complaint:

On the load I am on right now... from Spencer, Iowa to Modesto, California. The 7700 has actually routed me across 80 to 76 into Denver, then 70 to 15 south ALL the way down to 210 in the LA metro area, over to Interstate 5 and back north. I am not joking... I have tried entering info differently or even clicking on avoid certain roads and it still insists on routing me this way. I know you said it uses ProMiles routing data... which if you run off promiles website will send you straight across 80 to Sacramento, and then down 99 to Modesto. which is 1829 miles versus what the 7700 tells you to run which adds on 250 miles to the trip. Just letting you know that this could be a potential problem with some trips as no matter how you enter the info, it will "insist" this is the best route to go

Oh and I forgot Brian on the suggestion, also it would be nice to be able to enter an average speed, like say you think you will be able average 63mph overall on the trip when driving. These are just suggestions Brian, as I said overall so far I am pretty impressed with this purchase

Looney Tune, try this. Sacramento area has a few bugs as to truck lengths and weight. Create a new truck for that area and list your length at no more than 38' and your weight to zero. This will bypass the problem and route you correctly. Pain in the *** solution, but until they update with a fix. It'll work. I-80 to CA-99 to Modesto. Doug

Thank you SSNVEGAS, you are basically correct. We did discover a software bug for California. If you set the "kingpin to last axle" length to 38 feet then it should resolve the issue.

In 1-2 weeks we will be releasing a new software version that fixes this. When the new version is released, it will be available for download from <HERE>.

Thank you for the suggestions. I agree that it would be convenient to have the ability to adjust the ETA. I have forwarded your request to our engineers.

Okay, We have discussed about weight limited warnings coming up on the road you are on, but I have a question. Why does the gps route us on the road to begin with if it knows there is a weight issue? On most of the warnings I have seen on the gps I have not seen any street signs to back it up. Also it does beep when at a weigh station, but shouldn't it tell us a mile before? My new software update is waiting for me to get home Monday to install it.

There are two basic types of restrictions: soft restrictions and hard restrictions.

A hard restriction means that under no circumstances are you allowed. For example a bridge with a 10 ton weight limit. If you are hauling 50 tons then you definitely cannot cross.

A soft restriction means that it should be avoided if at all possible. For example the street in front of Cobra Electronics is a residential street with a 5 ton weight limit, but we have a truck dock. Trucks are permitted on the street in order to make pickups and deliveries. If you route to Cobra, you will get a weight limit warning on our street but it is OK.

The nav unit will take you down a soft restriction if there is no other practical way.

Regarding weigh stations, I believe we are working to improve the notification. I do not know when it will be released.

Brain. Have major problems!! Got home last week and the map and software update was waiting for me. Following the instructions i updated my unit. First thing i noticed was that all whole address book was gone! And 2nd all the setting for the gps were reset. So i started over entering the data. Then went to update the aura. After doing this i restarted the unit. Here is the major problem. Any time i shut the unit off and turn it back on all my settings, routes and address book are erased. I called support, per them did a master reset and installed the map update. But this did nothing to fix the problem. Now at any time i have to shut the unit off everything is reset and deleted. Any ideas for help on this problem, please.
