Hi my name is ''Sammycat'' and I'm a Buffalo Bills fan. "Hello Sammycat! Welcome!'' yup just like they do at any support meeting cuz that's about how I feel sometimes when I actually admit OUTLOUD that I am a Bill's fan. Good Lord there aren't too many teams right now that are worse than the Bills-okay Cleveland and the Lions- but we are all pretty much in the leagues basement now. At least I have not had to resort to wearing a paper bag on my head.....YET!

BUT 2010 is the Season to Bill'eve!!!! According to the BS that the Bill's front office is feeding us and the local media blitz around the NFL draft and will be starting back up again with training camp starting up in July. The Bills actually train in Rochester now at a local University. It's pretty exciting to have them here and watch camp. But 2010 the Season to Bill'eve will have to be seen! I actually got called several times by the Bills org and finally called back and inquired to why they kept calling the house. ''Well this is the season to Bill'eve!'' me: really? '' We are so excited about some of our draft picks and see this season with great change!'' me: really? "Would you be interested in coming to a game or getting season tickets this year? '' me: really? are you kidding? (mind you I go to at least one game a year it's a blast!) ''Yes are you interested?'' me: no '' Can I ask why?'' me: you want the truth? (think movie line here-you can't handle the truth!!) They suck! Ticket prices have gone up. I went into a bit more detail but they haven't called back since....

Okay born and raised (near) Buffalo. A blue collar working class place where alot of people were tied to either the Chevy plant or the local steel plant. The NE area is bleak and long in the winter. We have the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres to entertain us thru that said long winter. Well in the 70's the Sabres wow hot the French Connnection! But like most Buffalo teams seems like they can almost grasp that brass ring but as their fingers brush the ring-SLAM and choke!
So back to the Buffalo Bills- 60's the old AFL Bills were a good team think Jack Kemp and Ralph Wilson. Ralph was ahead of his time and did help to make the NFL thru the combination of the old divisions what the NFL is today. I really didn't pay much attention in the 70's was a bit too young more interested in my friends school boys but I do remember going to the old rock pile and I do remember OJ breaking records!

In the 80's, I found my interest in Football peaked. I never understood all the ins and outs of plays or calls or penalties. My brothers couldn't have been bothered to teach me at the time. I had a good friend who spent an entire season (when I was off work on Sundays) that taught me the ins and outs. Now mind you the early 80's were not the greatest time for the Bills- so it wasn't like talking thru a game you missed much....
okay so the early to mid 80's pretty blah and then in 1986-it was like the coming of (pardon this here but we take our football pretty serious) the coming of a second god! Trumpets sound and JIM KELLY arrives in Buffalo! I had moved to Rochester in '85 but was in Buffalo alot as my parents still had the house. It was like a national holiday-people took the day off work! The city ''shut down'' and we all held our breaths! Jim Kelly was the old folded USFL QB and were heard great things about him. He spoke like an arrogant SOB in the 3rd person but who cared! He was here to save our team!! The first few years like any new QB without support struggled, but oh like a well oiled machine the front office at One Bills Drive got their shitz together. They started to bring in the likes of Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Steve Tasker, Bruce Smith, Darryl Tally and still had some guys from the team who's talent started to shine-my favorite NT Freddie Smerles!! Used to put up his great big PAW and block passes and punts like nothing! Oh we started to have hope we started to have fun we cheered we screams WE BELIEVED!!! Oh those days were fun!! Kicking Miami's ### in games riots in the stands if a fish fan was there!! Sundays were like holidays-everything stopped-unless you were dead (or really not interested) YOU WERE WATCHING THE BILLS!! You knew the players by name and number and were on a ''first name'' basis. Going to the GAME was an event! 80K fans SCREAMING one of if NOT the hardest venuses they said for the opposing team to play at Rich Stadium-the fans could help to make or break a game with the NOISE! I still remember the cheers as Bruce Smith came on the field. 'BRRRRRRUUUUUUCCCEEE!!' which may have sounded like a boo but was not. The no huddle and the K gun!! Oh those days were fun. As the season went on and the games were close if you were in a store they would have the TV or radio on the game so you wouldn't miss anything!

Superbowl XXV:January 27, 1991. NY Giants- the day will live in our memories for ever. OMG we MADE it to the SUPERBOWL!! Holy crap batman -can you BILL"EVE!! A rollarcoaster ride and we made it! I was at a friends of course parties all over WNY- I still remember that play-the play-the play to win the FREAKING SUPERBOWL- we were on our knees in front of the TV-hands all grasped -almost in prayer and I am sure some were said-we held our breath we watched.....we watched.....oh good god no...no....no NO!!!!! what WTF wide right??? No it's a fake it's wrong no....no one spoke we watched in disbelief...Scott Norwood one of the best if not best kickers saved the Bills ### all season and what -wide right? A pin could have dropped in that room-it was one of the saddest moments in Bills history such a hard fought game so close so close.
Well the Bills made it 3 times more to Superbowls and in Buffalo Bills fashion the season was great-the games were pins and needles. You would be hoarse from screaming- you would want to throw up from the anticipation! Oh the 90's were GREAT! I think we will never see the likes of the team from the late 80's and 90s again. So many in the HOF and so well deserved.

Sigh-now it's 2000s and the Bills in their fashion are rebuilding-again. Some bad drafts some good trades a few good seasons. Doug Flutie he was great! Drew Bledsoe! Some pretty good seasons in the late 90's early 2000's but never good enough but certainly fun-not the Jim Kelly era but not bad! Later 2000's well now the lack luster Bills -can't find a QB who really clicks can't find the support for the QB if he is decent.

So here it is now 2010- the Season to Bill'eve. Seems as if the Buffalo Bills are only good every decade. The 60's they were good in the old AFL. The 70's okay OJ was great but he was not the whole team. 80's hmmm late 80's early 90's JIM KELLY era. 2000's some good seasons by mid 2000's not so good. Even TO who showed up in '09 and roused us up was a good boy. Only the Buffalo Bills could make Terrel Owens shut up-sad. They brought him in to stir the pot too.

So is this the decade to Bill'eve? I would like to think so. I would like to Bill'eve. I would like to help my parents drink that bottle of champagne they bought in '91 to celebrate winning a Superbowl.....I don't think so though.

Hey, sammycat. I got your PM but can't reply just yet. I have to reach that 50 mark. LOL! Thanks for the reply.

You grew up in good ole' Buffalo. I got some family up there. My parents were raised in Buffalo. And Hubby has family up there too. We haven't been to visit in years but I prefer visiting in the warmer months....I know all about the good ole' winters up in Buffalo.
