On Our Own

Just me, myself, and I. Just us, on our own...

Seriously, the day I have been dreaming about has finally come. I am writing this blog entry on the comfy 2 inches of memory foam on top of my bunk in my own truck!

Made it home in time for the fourth with the family. Monday was a holiday for administration at Swift so I didn't have to be back until 8AM on Tuesday. It took two days to upgrade with all the classes and lag time. Officially moved into my truck yesterday. It's a rather banged up 351,000-mile '08 Volvo. I was hoping for a Volvo, but now that I'm moved in, there isn't a place for my Coleman 40qt cooler! I have to put it in the passenger seat, something I'm not really jumping for joy about.

I really can't complain too much though because I saw what some of the other guys got for trucks and I am fortunate. Hey, we're the newbies. I can't blame anyone for not giving us 2010 Volvos or whatever. I woudn't give the newbie the most expensive truck when I was self-insured!

Lots of cosmetic defects with the truck, but I think I can fix some in time.

Right now I'm waiting on a trailer here at the terminal to come out of the shop so I can take it to my first shipper. It's a live load in northern Georgia to northern Florida. I asked for a load headed south so I can stop back by the house to pick up a few things I left behind. That leads me to my developmental DM. He is awesome so far. A little scatter brained but he is very helpful. My experiences with all of management so far have been pretty positive. I can't think of a single complaint right now, and I'm really trying...

Well, I should be in Florida tomorrow late morning. It's an all-day drop delivery so I'm going to take my time. Not going to rush right out of the gate. In a horse race, rarely does the leader of the pack hold on to that lead the entire race. Usually the one who paces him/herself pulls from behind. That'll be my strategy and mental attitude. Just cruise...

See you down the road! Log legal and slow down...

You probably did. I am around there quite often and was there for two days. Good luck with getting a good mentor. Start your own blog! The more the merrier!

Feel free to stop me and introduce yourself if you ever see me. I look the same as I do in the picture.

I read your blog religiously, I am about to enter into the Roehl school and have been pre-hired for their national fleet. I can't wait to get started. I read all your posts and learn from your words.. Please keep it going for me. It's awesome for a new guy to read true stuff..
