A union is workers joining together to pursue policies and goals beneficial to one and all. Nothing more, nothing less. In other words, a union is you and your fellow workers, acting in concert to better your everyday working conditions.

A union is what gives the individual worker a voice in decisions and events that directly affect him or her in an undertaking that constitutes a major portion of life, that is, work.

A union allows workers a say in changing workplace conditions and solving workplace problems. With a union contract and grievance procedure to back them up, workers don’t have to suffer in silence or feel that their only option to unacceptable conditions is to quit their jobs.

a union is everyone bands together as one. if a company picks one person, its the same as picking on them all and they all stand together to fight back as one. safety in numbers

unions are the workers' equivalent of corporate and business associations where they get together and fix prices. It is because of unions that we are not working at subsistence wages; wages for which employers would prefer us to work. Unions benefit every worker. And not just members. But it is the sacrifice of the members which benefit all of us. If you have a chance to join a union, you should. It makes for a more secure United States of America, as opposed to creating a Corporate State of America.

In a nut shell, a union will collect weekly dues from you, and in return you will have a union rep, or a shop steward, who can make suggestions to your company, I say suggestions since your company will always maintain their managing rights. A union can also negotiate with your company for better benefits and pay, but understand that, they negotiate not force. There are times when unions simply collect dues, and times when they organize a workforce to stand together. I hope my simple answer helps.

There are many people who cannot or will not manage their own lives and prefer a union to do that for them. The problem is when you join a group (union) you have to go along to get along no matter what you personally believe. One of the common beliefs of union members is that the evil corporation that we worked forhas more money then they should. So dragging our ### to run up the overtime (we were paid by the hour) was justified. Interesting that every driver got twelve (12) hours five days a week, reguardless of the run they were on. The difficulty that I experienced was as a vacation cover driver any run was not more than eight ( hours driving the speed limit and working at a safe pace. Union did try to help me by suggesting I make more "safety stops" hint, hint. I came from the warehouse side of the operation where your hours are closely watched. Stealing from the company (that paid me well + benefits) just because all the union drivers were doing it, I just never could get comfortable with it.
