Like I said in my last blog i am going back to driviing after 6 years of being away from the industry. Here is the reason for this blog. The public opinon of us truck drivers is that we all are nasty, greasy, and really dont care about anything. When I hear drivers over the radio cutting each other down and trying to be BILLY BIG RIG it makes me cringe. What happened to the day of helping each other out and caring about each other and taking pride in what we do. I know alot of you are going to say " ITS THE COMPANIES FAULT". And yes maybe so in some cases. But its up to us drivers to stick together and become one again like the old days. Not to pick fights over the radio and watch a new driver trying to back in a hole and just sitting there watching and not getting out and helping the ROOKIE. I am proud to be once again a truck driver. We are the only ones who can change our image.

Chivalry and camaraderie among truckers as a whole is pretty much dead. People get pleasure these days from "one-upping" each other. I will never understand why other truckers sit like hawks in the drivers seat while watching someone struggle to back into a tight hole. I will never understand why some truckers on the highway think that it's okay to speed up whenever another trucker tries to pass them. I will never understand why truckers put each other down, and fight among themselves over the CB radio like children. Being a 28 year old driver who has been driving for two years over the road who has never experienced what times were like out here before this "Me me me, It's all about me so screw you" mentality that I witness everywhere is very difficult for me to comprehend.

When I worked over at Knight, I witnessed this Knight Refrigerated driver struggling with his backing when he was trying to blind-side back into a tight hole. I proceeded to get out of my truck to help him out, but he angrily shook his head in disbelief, slammed the door to his tractor hard, and rapidly accelerated out of the area. This was an older gentlemen by the way. I don't know if he was intimidated that someone was trying to help him, but I will never understand people.

Sometimes, witnessing the disrespect that I see out here causes my mood and attitude to become extremely unpleasant. My past posts here have reflected as such. It just pisses me off to the point of violence the way people are out here.....no camaraderie and abundant selfishness in the trucking community.

I don't blame the companies, but they are part of the equation. We the drivers are the only ones that can be the solution to this ever-abundant issue.

lI totally agree with you. If we could only come up with some way or a group of us to vow to change alittle or do one thing different while we are out there may be just maybe we will get the camaraderie back in the industry.
It starts with the trainers I would have to say. Trainers not only training the ROOKIE on how to drive but show them the whole big picture (i.e. helping other drivers.. etc). Who do you drive for now? If and when you see a FFE truck give me a yell I either go by THE PLAYMAKER or WINGDING.....

I don't drive for anyone right now. I'm looking into working as either an auto-hauler, or just regional work that would afford me a couple of days off after working for 7-10 days at a time. I've applied for one company so far that has operations limited to just three states.
