European Truck-Short Sea Deal Scrapped

European Truck-Short Sea Deal Scrapped

Quote:
DSV, Scandinavia's top trucking and logistics group, has scrapped plans to take joint control of DFDS, a leading short sea shipping line, after European trust busters launched an in-depth probe of the deal.

The European Commission, the EU's executive, on June 12 said it would begin a comprehensive analysis of the deal after an initial investigation indicated it might impede competition in the European short sea shipping sector.

DSV said it does not believe its joint bid with JL-Fondet, the majority shareholder in DFDS, to take control of the Copenhagen short sea carrier, would cause any competition concerns. But the companies do not want to go through the EU's in-depth investigation, it said.
