The friends I have that use a 6.7 have been almost broke by the maintenance issues.
They have resorted to removing the costly items that are the emissions in order to achieve good mileage in the business.
One guy had to return a truck as a lemon and then got another one in the deal.
The 2008 has had 3 turbos. They get dirty and just clog up.
After seeing the problems they have had and the money they have spent, it is no doubt how much I would not want one.
There are dodge forums that discuss the problems they have encountered out there.

Interesting info. I only have 65K on my truck now, so do you know about when they started having problems? Or did they have them from the start? So far so good with mine, but now I'm knocking on wood...

The first truck they had major issues and they got rid of it on. Warranty.SMBdriver Thanks this. -
Any hot shot operators (flatbed) doing any leasing in TX or OK (or even perhaps WY or ND)? I have a paid for 2011 GMC duramax 4wd dually (live and move around in a large 5th wheel trailer) and can find an appropriate flatbed trailer when/if the time comes. Thanks in advance

How about any freight coming out of colorado?

I'm surprised you had the problems you did with the motor and trans in a 7.3 Roadmedic. If it was a 6.0 I would understand but a 7.3??? I know of many who have well over 500K and one that 6 years ago had 987K on the original trans and motor. I guess its just luck of the draw.
As for the last of the 5.9 motors, have you seen any turbo problems with it? I know that they are weak on those because the EGTs on those motors run high. -
I am beginning to think that insurance companies, freight dispatchers , and most freight companies are in a closer nit group that we would expect. In some circles this could be considered collusion.
Its almost impossible to get started without a million obstacles placed in front of you.
First its the price of your insurance , then the fact that you are almost forced to lease to some company , since you dont have contscts or opportunity.
Once you do that, you are working for peanuts. If the load pays 1000 dollars , your
leasor takes 35% off the top and deals out 25% ot the balance to you. They can always explain away the costs and if you dont like it, you can go home----But you cant work for anyone else because of the lease you signed.
WE NEED AN EXPEDITER'S ORGANIZATION , SIMILAR TO THE ONE JIMMY HOFFA STARTED .WE COULD GET FREIGHT HAULS OURSELVES AND THE LOSS WOULD BE MINIMUM.WE COULD MAKE A DECENT WAGE.
-----AND WE WOULDNT NEED AN EXISTINF AFLCIO UNION TO COME IN EITHER ---WE COULD DO IT OURSELVES -
hey new here but i was reading and thinking to my self how much different it is in some places. i been doing hotshotting for almost a year now. i run a 2010 dodge ram 4500 and a 40foot load trail. i haul alot of different stuff from tractors, cars, lot of construction equipment, alot of all kinds of tubing, pretty much haul anything. do pretty well, my average for this year is 2.50 a mile and i run the 11 western states (located out of cali). i deffently have to agree tho a ram is the best for this type of work 5.9 preferable but i have a 6.7 once i removed all the stupid emission stuff my mileage is back up to what my 5.9 was, and i have yet to have any repairs on my truck. I own my company tho so i pick what i want and ask for what i want i also pay a dispatcher to find me work and man dose he keep me busy. Our truck has been on the road 8months straight only time home is one day to change my oil, fuel filter tranny fluid, and rear end fluid and to switch out with my bro. If you have any question fell free to ask im more then happy answer i well agree what was said in the beginning there a lot of hotshoters that hate to share what there doing.

Buddbros, You live in the state with the biggest stink about emissions on trucks. Whats your experience with DOT inspections and or annual safety inpections when you remove all that emission equipment from your truck.

any hotshot company owners in FL? Iam looking to purchase 2003-2009 Dodge Ram 3500 Crew Cab (would also use this truck for another side job, reason for the crew cab). Would be interested in hauling cars, boats, small pop ups (rv's), piping, etc. Currently just have a FL Class E license but saving to go to a Community College to get my CDL-A, and would have no expierence. Please PM me with more info, I live in Ocala, FL. about 10 minutes from I-75.
