Currently we use Progressive Insurance and they are without a doubt the most expensive for commercial insurance I've found. Our sister company in Wyoming pays about 1/2 as much as our Denver office the a fleet that is twice the size of ours... Their insurance provider is not licensed in Colorado. Bummer...

Does anyone have a good insurance company they recommend? As an example, our 1st truck (2012) was rated at about $9,500/yr with each additional vehicle bringing it up by $2K/yr with $1,000,000 in general liability + $100,000 cargo.

    Thanks!:biggrin_2554:

I found progressive to the cheaper this year. I was with canal for three years and brookwod for two. Premiums ran between 4800-6800. Last year was 5300 plus finance charge . This year it's 3903 paid in full, just like a 2000 christmas present.

Awesome, I could use a Xmas present this year like that :) For having all drivers with Class A CDLs and w/o any violations ours seems a bit high not to mention Progressive max's out at $100K for Cargo and we're required to carry a minimum of $500,000. :biggrin_2554:

Who wants 500,000? Most brokers carry insurance to cover any shortfall on a claim. Now carhaulers carry 150-200k

Anyone that wanted more than 100,000 cargo from me I'd ask them will they commit enough business in writing to justify the additional insurance or
let them furnish it.. Thats just like general liability it's not neededd as long as your freight never leaves your truck during transit.
I have only been asked for general liability three times and two I hauled load
ayway without it. Beofre you commit to extra insurance see about additional cost and weigh if it's worthwhile.

If you're buying insurance through a broker have them source a supplier/insurance company that will pick up the portion of the cargo insurance that Progressive won't cover.

I'm currently looking at Progressive for my general car insurance, you might want to try searching commercial auto insurance and then comparing quotes. You might want to compare state-by-state car insurance, I know they have one for Oregon at least, I'll have to check and see if they have one for Colorado.

My truck ins. is thru 1st Guard and Im very happy with them. I wouldnt let Flo's ins. cover my lawn mower, they suck. Ive had dealings with them and they will always look for a way to avoid paying. 1st Guard has been very good to me and when something happens they take care of it. Never shop by price alone, cheap prices are worthless if they don't take care of you. Been with State farm also for over 20 yrs.
