You know, it amazes me how people like you will say the truck will be worn out.

With your logic, no one should ever buy a semi and use it to haul loads. All you will do is wear it out.

I have over 711,000 miles on my truck. I maintain it like I did the big truck.

A semi gets more than $1.25 mile INCLUDING FSC and doesn't run half its miles unpaid deadhead .
If a driver finances a dually for 5 years with payments over $500 a month how much will he net each year and how many years will most haulers stay with that?

Whatever. I see tankers here that are empty for 1/2 the time. I see them with high payments as well.

I see them get rid of their trucks at 500,000 because of the wear on them.

You could not make it because of poor ability, does not mean others cannot.

If you plan to run the north west US or Canada you better have 4X4 or spend all your time with chains.

    Roadmedic Thanks this.

Wasting your time with him. He lost at the business and has a sour taste toward it.

I went today to look at a chevy 3500 duramax allison dually combo..it was very nice but the thing didnt have tow mirrors on it...what do people do with these just go to dairy queen..Only thing i am finding out there is 4x4 to. It could be good i guess for alot of Canada runs.. I will continue the search though. I feel confident i could make money if i buy used but not so sure about buying new. Roadmedic who do you drive for if you dont mind me asking? Anyway you all be safe out there.

I do not state on an open forum who I drive for.

There are a great deal of Canada runs. The weather up there is questionable through mid May in some parts. It gets snow sometimes in the northern areas in September.

The freight slows during the summer and picks up after the model year change in July.

Canada freight is strong through the winter since they have a shorter summer up there and want the units available earlier.

I was making it but my previous employer called me when he got new contracts with higher rates . Unlike you I got in a big truck and was able to idle as much as I wanted , got good rates , and all my loads were easily able to be run legally . Over half my miles are run empty but I am guaranteed. $.40 a mile including all deadhead and bobtail miles.
Like you , most "making it" hauling RV's are able to."make it " because they have other sources of income.

What evidence do you have that I lost ? I just didn't make nearly as much aas I could in a big truck . On the other hand we all read about your failed attempt to leave RV transport and go OTR . You couldn't get a decent carrier to hire you .

Not a failed attempt to leave. Only when it was slow. I only mentioned the worse one that I had dealings with. There have been others. One of which I ran the relay from Springfield to Chicago. I left them with 3 weeks notice to return back to the truck. They told me I could come back whenever I want. I found that on this relay, all I was doing when I got home was sleeping. Seems the start time would be 3 am to 7 am depending on when the night guy would get in from St. Louis.

I was probably a bit harsh on you, but you are so negative toward it, it leads one to believe that you have a sour taste toward it. One would expect that you have lost dearly at it or even maybe a friend. But you are correct to a point, most that get into this fail. It seems to have the same failure tint that the leasing of a truck does at most carriers. Poor business ability.

Yes, I looked at the tankers here because they advertised more home time. Just like others they lied. They paid percentage on the outbound only. The good loads would go to the drivers on seniority basis. One they showed to me was a run from Champaign, Il to Fort Worth an the pay down was 354.00. The pay back was zero.

Judging by the one you are with, you have a golden job.
