Good Evening:
I was wondering if it is possible to start your own hotshot company with a DUI on your record. Since you would be the company owner, I would imagine the biggest hurdle would be to acquire insurance. Does anyone know of any companies that would insure a new CDL driver with a recent DUI conviction?

You MIGHT get lucky, but when they see that driving record, you'll be lucky to get insurance and if you do, it's going to be EXPENSIVE, even as a new driver with no DUI, it will be expensive.
Good luck. -
The only thing you can do is check around with different insurance companies. I would start with Progressive. They seem to be about the only insurance company that will insure inexperienced drivers. Being that it is hot shot, there may be other companies that will work with you. Find an independent agent that will shop your business. Most have several insurance companies where they can place business.
dancnoone Thanks this. -
G/MAN is on the money with Progressive. If you can't get insured through them. You're going to be waiting for awhile.
They insured my son in law, when nobody else would touch him. Different set of circumstances, but still the only company. -
I agree with Sho-Tyme, IF you find someone to write you a policy it's going to be VERY expensive.
How "recent" is your DUI conviction? Did you obtain your Class A CDL after your conviction? -
Conviction was May 31. Working on obtaining it now. I have heard Progressive only allows folks to run in a 500 mile radius. Is that accurate, or do they have a service that will allow you to go beyond those boundaries?
Planning on starting June-August of next year. -
Progressive will allow a larger radius. Not sure about the details, etc. Just know they will.
-
Some insurance agents can write a wider radius than 500 miles. They were testing the idea about a year or so ago. I don't know if they have expanded the radius where all agents can write the larger radius. -
Yes, but you would have to pay more insurance fees.
