Many will not hire you with a short bed.

You might try Classic or Indiana Transport. The age of the truck could be an issue as well.

Some will hire you with a short box if you have a slider. Some companies will waive the age requirement on the truck if it looks good. This is the busy season, you should be able to find work. I'm pretty sure Synergy RV Transport would offer you a lease with your set up.

CWRV Transport will hire you with a short bed truck of that year. It just has to be at least a 3/4 ton.

I purchased a 2013 Ram 3500 30,000# tow capacity truck. I had a 3 day commute to work. cost me $400.00 to drive to work. no I did not live in IN. I am thankful for RV Transport for giving me a chance. ALL of the transport companies have slightly different requirements on equipment. Horizon is the big gorilla but they do not pay the best. some offer a $3,000 sign on bonus, other do not. put a 100 gallon tank in the bed of your truck and fillup in IN. also understand that 1/2 of your miles are done for free. CWRV has a no wash and no Canada policy. hauling out of IN vs OR. IN pays better. you will be paying for everything upfront and getting reembursed. some will pay tolls both ways and others only pay one direction. if you use an ez pass put it where it will not be read while you are hauling because you can not get reembursed for the tolls. (no receipt ready when you transflo your paper work).

You can pull through the pay lane and ask for a receipt.

From the inquiries that I've made seems that the towaway departments are partial to long beds. I was ready to trade in my 8' box for a Braford workbed but now I believe that I'll stick with current box. I would appreciate any other views about this.

Let me start by saying I DO NOT haul Rv's nor have I ever. However, I am in the transport business and would like to offer my .02 on this topic. This is strictly my opinion and I know many on this site do make a living doing this and I have complete respect for these drivers.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to speak with many guys that are in the rv transport business and they all have pretty much the same story. They enjoy what they do but its a tough business to make it in financially. Thus the major shortage in drivers... I ran into a guy just the other day and had a great conversation and I thought this could help some people looking to get into this business and give them some real world numbers.

Here was his latest run. Elkhart to Albuquerque NM was getting paid $2245 for 1430 miles which comes out to $1.57 per mile. He averages 9.5 mpg in his 2012 Dodge dually towing which will take about 150 gallons of diesel at roughly $4.00 per gallon will call it $602 in fuel to get there. He said he dead heads back at 20 mpg which will take 72 gallons at $4.00 so another $288. This is a 4 day run which he sleeps in the back of his truck.

    So here's the break down:

    $2245
    -602 fuel
    -288 fuel
    $1355

So not including anything but fuel he's left with $1355 for 4 days work. If you take the $1355 and divide it by the 4 days he worked it comes out to $338.75 per day. If he drives 12 hours per day he's making $28.23 per hour driving. All the other unknown factors including truck payment if he has one, insurance, maintenance, are not included.

Can you pass a CDL Medical? The only problem now would be the company you contract with. I know of several high sixty-year old people, (I’m sixty three), who are doing fine as sessional delivery drivers. I personally do not know of any who are in their seventies. Some people I know look like they are.
