I've been researching this also and found that 50% will say it's the worst game in the world and 50% will say you can make money. The ones who say you can make money admit you probably won't make a fortune. My next door neighbor makes 24k clear and works 2 days a week hauling with his duramax dually. He says there are guys in his company netting 50k that run full time.

I am corresponding with CWRV and Synergy right now. Both pay in the 1.50cpm to 1.70 cpm range. Synergy sent me a copy of the lease in pdf format---still reading that. As an admitted dummy when it comes to leasing on and transporting RV's I must say that $1.50-1.70 per mile doesn't sound that bad. Deduct 1/2 for expenses and you're still doing ok at 1/2 of .75 to .85cpm (figuring getting paid without a backhaul) However, if you have a big lease payment it seems to require you run all the time to make ends meet.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap truck and giving it a try. My company has two single axel Volvo tractors (day cabs) that they want to get rid of for 5k each. They have 700k or so on them but they were both maintained well. Any thoughts? (anyone!)

It seems to me that your expenses are actually closer to 65 or 70% after you put aside for oil changes, tire wear, other maintenance issues. Maybe even less than that without backloading I just dont see it I keep hoping someone that does will tell me i am wrong

quatto - - doing the same research myself and same companies. I have 2 others in mind also. I've had recruiters tell me finding your own loads for a return trip is ok if you split the pay, since you run under their flag. I've been told 80/20 by one.

I'm doing my legwork next week, physical, license insurance etc. I'm running a 00 Ford 7.3.

After reading a lot of threads on here, there are a lot of differing opinions. As a small business owner, I've learned it is what you put into it. Being an optimist and knowing my own capabilities I'm doing it. Just a matter of which company I get the joy of working with (contracting with, dealing with, driving for)

I don't live in Indiana, but I'd bet that's a plus on the income/home time side of things!

I notice the drivers who do this a lot, usually avoid mentioning who they work with/for...I'm a newbie on this site, maybe that isn't acceptable. Roadmedic, RVTransporter PM me? I talked to 5 companies and think I've picked the best based on recruiting pitches...I'd like to compare my notes...I'm ready to drive (slow and steady wins the race, in my case 62mph)

quatto. what did you come up with?

that's what I figure, feed and water the horses first and they'll take care of you! So, you've been on this train a while, and if it wasn't working you wouldn't have stayed! I love driving and hauling! Did it in the military for 20 years!
