run solo and never look back.I'd leave the dude anyway by declaring that without a partner,you lose the truck.the main thing is to not panic and step back for a moment.will the truck owner just snatch the truck that quickly if you have no partner? does that mean he already has someone else lined up to run team? if so,how do you know he wasn't looking for a reason to get you out of the truck?
you'll figure it out.surely you can make a few runs sans a partner that probably was leaving anyway and didn't have the balls to tell you up front.just reads to be fishy on everyone's behalf excluding you.pee on team driving anyway.now is your time to do it on your own-

*** just read w/a little more comprehension.I skimmed over and went back.I knew that the co-driver was bs'ing,BALL-less individual,just seemed too bizarre behaviour wise.I still stand by my assertion that you will be fine.
i will assume that you went to some driving school.why not go thru them and allow them to line you up with a female co-driver or at least one that is screened by them and then you?no need to be hasty when deciding on a co-driver.all these guys begging you,like off craigslist or similiar, to let them partner with you just reeks imo.you don't know them from jack feces.not saying that they are flakes but people can tell you anything,not unlike some dating site,and you won't find out the truth until you run a mile or two with them.you just experienced that with your last "partner".
NO I AM NOT PASSING JUDGEMENT on anyone on this forum.I am simply stating that choosing a co-driver is not simply done via some email exchanging process.I'd leave trucking before i ran team.you can solo and probably out drive 75% of the male drivers going thru these schools nowdays-

What type of truck do you drive? Is it one of those freightliner straight trucks with the sleeper cab on the back? I finally saw one for the first time a few weeks ago at a Walmart parking lot. It had Panther on the side of the truck. I'd love to drive one of those things. I'd assumed backing would be much easier because of no separate trailer to maneuver.mje Thanks this. -
Backing in the straight trucks isn't too bad. I still have to get out, look, and scout my path because sometimes shippers will put me at old docks and places with ridiculously little room. They do this because I'm not dealing with a trailer. I had to go to a dock last week, in which I had to back a path from the parking lot in front of the building, turn past dumpsters into an alley, back through a chain link gate, then tiptoe between a retaining wall and stacks of skids. There wasn't enough room to pull in forward, turn around and dock. No one wants to spot, either, but I finally got someone to help. Not everywhere is like that, fortunately.
Shipper: "Oh! No problem! Plenty of room!"

I do not see how the owner is losing to much money because now it is sitting not making any. Unless he has someone else in it. But with you driving it he was making some.

I applied to a couple of expedite companies this week. I was seeking a contract driver position as a solo driving straight truck but unfortunately I have to be apart of a team and co drive with someone else. I was asked to consider driving cargo vans solo so I waiting to get in contact with a few fleet owners to see if it will be worth my while. From what I've read online, cargo vans pays the least CPM; market is oversaturated with vans with limited freight which means lots of days sitting for loads; teams are given preferential treatment over solos; contract drivers may only get up to 65% of revenue to truck and maybe a fuel surcharge while also being responsible for fuel, tolls, etc. Another downside is that vans being so small won't have comfortable sleepers like straight trucks and tractors. It looks like the other two positives are the ability to park and go anywhere a car can unlike a tractor-trailer and maybe a straight truck. The other positive is hours of service and no weigh stations to worry about.
I'm starting to think I should just suck it up and try the tractor-trailer route again because I would earn more money than a cargo van and have more consistent loads and a comfortable sleeper and still the option to be solo....mje Thanks this. -
If you want to run solo for Panther, Mayfield Express offers a solo driver option. You won't get a brand new truck, but you'll get one that gets the job done. They also pay fuel and maintenance.

Yes. When my previous partner left, I was told to clean out the truck. I wanted to at least run solo until I could get another partner assignment, but that owner wasn't having it. Essentially, Mayfield was my best alternative. The other one was go home minus all the time and money I put into getting there and be jobless. There's no way I'm doing that. Not voluntarily.
