I am wondering if my inabilty to get work is due to my poor communication skills

Why don't you just get a CDL and then you will have a lot better oppertoonity. I'm not goign to pay to train someone who might be interested in working for me.

 

Your communications skills are fine. But lacking experience which is a requirement to get you hired is the problem

 

You shouldn't be "tired of anything", you should be "seeking new career opportunities within the transportation industry"

Don't put negative wording on a resume or job seeking site. Nothing negative about previous jobs.

While you may not have bad habits because you have never driven a semi... that's two negative's in one sentence. The only thing someone might remember is the "bad Habit's" by the time they finish reading your resume, IF that is they get past the first sentence.

You don't "prefer a company to stay with".... you ARE going to stay with them ( reguardless of weather you are or not )


My advice... get a professional resume writer to write up both your resume and any blurb you want to put on a job seeking site... think of it as a cover sheet, which really is what it is. IF communication is your week point, then let someone else deal with that.

 

Face to face is always better. As d o g said, keep it positive. "Hello. I have a CDL-A with endorsements, and I'm looking for a beginner position."

I constantly see ads for companies looking for CDL drivers. If you go talk with them, they'll have an easier time assessing your character in person. You can do this.

 

I think your communication skills are fine. I think your first line could be better. Something along the lines of im looking for a career change. Your best bet though would be if you got your cdl first.

To OP, really just have a resume and do as many walk-in's as possible. You really don't "need" the resume and most Driving HR people don't want one, but it's also a great way to be able to fill out every application without looking everything up.

As for references, previous supervisors? As long as they are honest people and you did a good job working for them, that shouldn't be a problem. Co-worker, just because you weren't BFF's doesn't mean they won't give a reference... just keep it professional and use their work number.

 

Do you ever take the time time to read the post or do you just start typing? He stated he has a class a with hazmat & twic card.
