Thx for the advice Lite bug. One good thing is that I have the cash to pay up front for everything to get started, so I wont have to worry about financing anything. I bought a F-350 flatbed with quad cab and the 7.3 turbo with about 35k on motor and tranny so that part is over with. Now researching the best way to go on a trailer and looking for the best deal I can find...I'm in Louisiana and I was hoping I could find enough loads from the brokers to keep me regional with the oilfield shale boom in south Texas going on. But I am willing to go OTR to make the money...Sounds like once I get my trailer, do all the legal stuff and get legit, I should be able to keep rolling full time using the load boards. My main concern was buying this equipment and not being able to find the loads to make it worth it.

Yes LA101 when I first started out I leased on with a guy to get started. After a short time I realized I knew almost as much as he did. The companies HarvOS is describing would be very good because they have been doing business for quite awhile, and you would not be concerned about booking loads.

Thx for the info Lite bug and HarvOS...I checked out Acme and United Vision and they both look like a good way to go starting out...Few more questions. United Vision says one of their requirements is verifiable OTR experience. Obviously I won't have that. I'm switching careers from being a welder to hotshot, so I was thinking about going to Coastal Driving School to get my CDL. I also have one felony on my record, but it was back in 2006, but I do have a clean MVR...Do you guys think I still have a shot leasing on to one of these 2 companies with a dually and 30'+ tandem flatbed fresh out of the driving school with my CDL? I don't want to spend anymore time and money just to find out I cant find a company to lease me on because of one of the above mentioned reasons.

Call them up brother, it may affect TWIC card or access to base or might not. I do not have TWIC card when I went to port I just paid for escort. I spent about 5 hr at the port just decided not to go anymore.
-
Yup. Sent them an email, gonna give them a call. I have the Twic Card because of welding offshore. Waste of money really. Its mandatory to have to hire in with most offshore companies nowadays tho. Went to port countless times and was never even asked to see it. Just checked the yes block lol

True I never worked for you Gary because I did my homework first.I didn't like the way whenever someone complained about how long it took you to get them loaded, or about dead head miles for how much they were paying you, on your website forum, those posts would magically disappear. And if someone would butt heads with you, you'd ban them. Or how many times have you said there's no money in cars, but half the pics on your site have a car or two on? Or how much of a kick back you get from people buying your special trailer? That's all I care to say, your reputation is well known, maybe you've changed I dunno, but I only hope a new guy will take the time I did to make a well informed decision before spending, and possibly losing, thousands of dollars.
