Hello everyone my name is Shawn and I'm from the Harrisburg Pennsylvania area and new to this site. I have a Class A Cdl but haven't been able to use it the past 2 years and couple months due to a Dui I had in July of 2012 "unfortunetly". So I am currently running expedited hot shots out of an extended Cargo Van with my own Cargo and Liability Insurance. I found 1 carrier out of Fort Worth Texas I been working with. I'm not getting the loads I would really like to get. But then again I am limited with what I can haul with a Cargo Van. I'm lucky to get 2 runs a week with this company. If I'm lucky I'll get 3 that's all I have ever gotten with this company. I was told to go with at least 3 Carriers instead of the 1 I'm currently with because it should increase my odds of getting Freight. If anyone knows any good carriers I could try I would really appreciate it if you would give me some info on some Companies. Just wondering if Chrobinson could help me out. I think that's the name of the place. Not for sure. I'm not sure if they could get me freight or not for a Cargo Van. I was told to get a Broker. I'm not for sure if that would increase my odds or not. Then again I'm not for sure how the Broker thing works. I'd be new to that. Any info anyone has I will be well appreciated.

hot shot is like that. I have a brother and an uncle that did it. neither of them made any thing at it. most hot shot companies are around major airports for the most part. as far as companies go. I know of a couple in Indianapolis. you might also try panther. they do ltl, expedited, and hot shot loads. landstar does some expedited loads. but they are pretty picky about who the give loads to. most of landstars loads are us government/military loads. and I believe both land star and panther will want you to have a hazmat endorsement and certification. any ways. you'll just have to get a phone book and do cold calls to get more work. you can sign up to uship.com and bid for freight. the internet is great for some things. but, other stuff like finding work. requires calling and selling your service to people. so every major city you come to. stop and get a phone book for the metro area for each city. and then when you are at home searching or waiting for a load. you can go thru the phone books business section cold calling looking for business. so if you don't know sales. now is a good time to start learning. one of the golden rules of sales. 1 in 10 will buy. get 3 no's and move on. know the product or service you are selling before you sell it. know the rates of the industry you are in. and don't promise anything you can't do.

You may want to go expeditersonline.com. It's a website that has a great deal of information about the expediting business.
a Large number of expediting companies advertise there, and the drivers that post on the forum are some of the most
experienced in the business. Lots of very good information there.
    Hope this helps you some.

    LGarrison Thanks this.

Sorry to hear about that dui, its very tough to work with. I wouldn't care as long as it wasn't in a CMV, but the insurance companies are very strict. They will either deny application or charge 50-100% more than what they should. I am not sure how many years have to go by till they lighten up, but would sure like to know.
