Its scary. Once you start plugging numbers in if it was not for tax deductions this job would be a disaster.

Amen to that! That should be a hint that too many of us are accepting low per-mile rates and depending on the government to bail us out of our own folly.
Sooner or later it catches up. Like when you need to replace a truck. If everyone could realize this, we could start letting the low-paying stuff sit on the dock until shippers (and brokers) start paying enough. -
What is so great about a tax deduction? I've never made money off one of those. As far as I can tell it's about the most useless expense on the ledger.
double yellow Thanks this. -
My cost per mile last year was .76 cents I haul pick-up only loads a lot at $1.87 loaded mile and 1/2 price backhauls. Trailer loads, 35ft dovetail, I'm getting between $1.92 - 2.22 a mile 1/2 price backhauls. My truck is set up for hauling/towing NOT stock. I never leave Texas, under 26,000 and home every night unless I'm driving.

Last year the cost per mile was actually up with trans rebuild, flatbed install, boards on trailer, two sets of rubber vs one etc
