All the expedite freight is qualcomm dispatched.

You are correct its Landstar Express America. The folks running there I've talked to were very happy.

I don't have a lot of answers on the Expedited freight, but your best bet would be to call the recruiting number on the website and ask them. Their recruiters ARE NOT JB Hunt recruiters. They are in a league all of their own. JB recruiters wouldn't even get their job app looked at. Landstar does not hire low lifes like JB does.

Thanks Brickman, I just shot them an email. I would hope we could find a company who didn't require CDL so the wife could go out with me. I don't need to make a fortune at this since I'm retired and have a good retirement income, but would be fun for us to get to see different parts of the country and get paid for it. If we can't find something like that I'm going to get my CDL and have her ride with me eventually. Our biggest need is health insurance because of her diabetes and my company dosen't provide it.

Thanks for all of the info. The links that I got all looks good, but I am interested in becoming an BCO with Landstar and not driving for BCO fleet owner as these sites seem to be. I guess the best way to find out about becoming a BCO would be to call them as suggested.

    Again, thanks for the info.

Vulcan, I can not PM you yet, but thanks for the info. Nice Vulcan by the way. I ride an '03 Yamaha V-Max myself!

From what I understand the pay is good

But they want you to run teams

This applies to panther not sure about Landstar

I am sure you must run class b, but not sure because it is over the road.

The diabetes will be a problem if your wife receives insulin by injection.

According to the FMCSA Driver 391.43

Diabetes. If insulin is necessary to control a diabetic driver's condition, the driver is not qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce. If mild diabetes is present and it is controlled by use of an oral hypoglycemic drug and/or diet and exercise, it should not be considered disqualifying. However, the driver must remain under adequate medical supervision.

Definition of Commercial motor vehicle 390.5

Commercial motor vehicle means any self-propelled or towed motor vehicle used on a highway in interstate commerce to transport passengers or property when the vehicle—

There aren't very many fleets with LS. The vast majority is single owner BCOs.

Actually, Landstar calls them Broker Carriers, but it's basically the same thing as a privately owned fleet driving for Landstar.

I think the broker carriers is when they refer to independents or similar that broker freight from them the same as any other broker.

I just check in with Landstar within the last month, the recruiter said they are not signing on cargo vans of any size right now due to the slow down in freight and not wanting to hurt the earning potential of their proven drivers by over saturation of 'B' units. I understand that and agree with that philosophy to protect their O/O's.
