I bet a lot of O/O's leased to Panther and FedEx CC wish their carriers had the same attitude . Instead they cut rates to keep trucks moving .

Very true, I just sold my van on 12/31 because the market is too saturated with them at this point. I used to come out way on top when the freight was around, but lately even here it's down to nothing, sort of paying to work.

As I understood it, if you drive, say a cargo van, under 26,000 GVW, then you do not have to follow HOS, and only need a cdl if it has air-brakes, or you are transportng haz-mat. Otherwise, everybody who rents a u-haul would need a cdl license.

The reason that most u-haul drivers don't need a cdl is they are not using the u-haul for "commercial purposes".

That is the difference, check the regs.

Do they still require prior experience to drive a van for them? (Drove dumps and flatbeds for local government job for a short time before joining the Army 17 years ago, but I can fend for myself and can perform unsupervised. If I can drive a HMMWV in Baghdad I can survive ATL traffic.)

Thank You for you service LB

The recent experience requirement for all companies is usually more of an insurance driven requirement than it is a company requirement.
