I see on the Landstar website that they take BCOs with 1ton cargo vans. I don't see anything on their load page small enough to fit in the cargo vans. My questions are these?

Is there anyone out there hauling for Landstar in a 1ton van (in the ATL/ Macon area)?

Is there a seperate load board for smaller loads or are these loads directly through the brokers?

Do they still require prior experience to drive a van for them? (Drove dumps and flatbeds for local government job for a short time before joining the Army 17 years ago, but I can fend for myself and can perform unsupervised. If I can drive a HMMWV in Baghdad I can survive ATL traffic.)

Would love to hear from someone outh there actually doing this to see if it even an option when I retire from the Army in 3 years. My plan is to eventually move up to Class A driving pulling a flatbed again once my son is older, eventually becoming an O/O. Until then I will try to drive locally. If there is a need for these kind of drivers in my area it seems like a natural fit for me.

I just did a pretty extensive search on Landstar website and didn't see anything about 1 ton van services. What link is it on?

Try searching the web for expedite service. Land star advertised there for just what your talking about.
    I cant post a link.
There is a on line magazine just for what your talking about.

I found it Landstar Express America or Express America Trucking. Didn't know they had this service. I would be interested in doing this some day with the wife, she can't get CDL because of Type 1 Diabetes. They even have 24-26 foot straight trucks with sleepers, as long as their under 26,000 lbs and don't have air brakes it dosen't require CDL.

I looked on Landstar dot com in the Global Logistics area. Under the BCO area there is a vehicle requirements sections for 1 ton vans and I see pics of vans on the website but I can not find any more information about running these vans for Landstar.

Actually, if I am reading the driver requirements section correctly, they require CDLs for both the vans and the expediter trucks running under them. Experience requirements seem to be the same no matter which kind of truck you are driving.

Please post the link if you can. When I searched for expedite services, all I found was the larger trucks, which I wouldn't mind doing but unless you are running teams most expedite services will not take you for these trucks. I think Fed-Ex is the same way for the Custom Critical part of their company.

    Landstar is an OO company.
They say CDL but I don't think its class A.
But you still must follow HOS.
