I just hate seeing super experienced professional drivers bashing the new guys. Is it so terrible to start somewhere other than with swift and Schneider or those giants who puts you in a truck with a load and send you over the road. Sounds like what I'm doing myself right now. I am new brand new doing my own thing. Does that mean I will crash and kill everybody. Lets be positive and real and encouraging. If I listened to negative people I would still be home looking out the window wishing.

Once in a while a new guy comes strutting into the saloon and soon finds himself in a gunfight of his own making.

Ok ok I see. As I said I am brand spanking new too. Still got the plastic on the seat type new. He was a little bit pushy. I learn from you more experienced guys when you talk about facts and procedures. I take notes. But I end up wasting time when you stop teaching and start beating with the belt.
I need to learn about load boards. I am so new that yesterday I booked my SECOND LOAD with TQL. It's a jungle out there. Only advice I got was to never accept the price offered. Always ask for more! Now is this the best advice? I don't know but if I stay at it I will learn something or if I ask you guys here I will learn the RIGHT way. Let me ask. When I see a load I like and I ..Call the dispatcher. What are the questions that I MUST ask other than the obvious ( how much it pay)

Yeah that's good advice and here's some more. Just because it's TQL means automatically it costs $5 a mile even on longer hauls take it or leave it lol. What's funny is they sometimes take it and so mark one up as a small victory for the little guy. The trouble with a lot of newbies is most of them are in way over their heads anyways. I wonder how quickly op will come off that high horse when he sees all the ridiculous backhaul rates he'll always be pulling off loadboards with his one ton truck.

To be honest I do feel a lot in over my head, but what else is there to do, QUIT! nope I rather keep running breaking even and learning than working for one of the giants, that's just me. I like to have my destiny in my hands sink or swim.
I don't even know how to calculate IFTA or IRP, but I know I need to. So I will be searching the forums and if all else fails I call OOIDA and ware them out with 100 questions, and if that dont work I call DMV or VDOT.
Catching the gist of what you said it seems that TQL is not newbie friendly or trucker friendly from what I have been reading as a general consensus. My first haul was with CH Robinson on sunday delivered Monday in GA. It went well I guess, are they a good company in your opinion @rollin coal

Almost every trucker has a low opinion of them. Their business practices leave a lot to be desired at times. Do a search of the forum to get an idea of that. As for CHR yes I do think they are great and have said so many times. Made several good contacts there and have always consistently gotten solid rates from them. It can be difficult with either of them starting out but if nothing else they will load your truck when others won't. And if you get good rates from either then you're playing the game right.

Thank you. You are right about business practices being kind of funny. Dispatcher told me if the shipper asked where the load was going, say Indiana, when Im going to SC then To DC. Huh? I guess..... As I said I am new so I sound new smell new look new so now everybody knew!!!!!!!
