There is a practical reason for sleeping in the truck. Several hotels don't have parking for RVs and it is not safe to leave the towed unit unattended. Best to park at a rest stop or a truck stop.

I've never had a problem finding a motel to park my truck and 40' trailer. There is nothing "practical" in sleeping in the backseat of a pickup. Nothing against the guys that do this it's just not for me. Once again I do not haul rv's I'm the freight hauling business.

I’m sorry. Did the truck sleeping thing and it just not did work out. Sleeping in the trailer is now my norm. I do spent 1-3 nights a week in a hotel, but the rest are in the trailer. Even if I get to the delivery dealer mid day I will still find a place to park and spend the night with the trailer and deliver in the morning.

    1. I gather lastone in means he gets an extra night in comfort at no cost.
    2. That's standard policy, but I gather some drivers consider that since they are fully in charge of the trailer between pickup and delivery, they decide where they should be to watch over the unit while they sleep. Now I'm told there is a way to tell if the driver slept in the trailer. Those that pass the test win... big grin

Here's some pics of my mini project. Keep in mind i'm an absolute amatuer at this! I removed all the seats, swapped out the r/f passenger seat into the drivers position, and left the passenger slider intact.

All rear seat hardware removed. My truck is probably 90lbs lighter minus these parts.

I also removed the rear bulkhead, but reinstalled it after i took another trip to the hardware store. The road noise without it was very loud. It likely has thermal as well as noise insulation properties too, so it is worth keeping attached, even though i lose two inches of lateral space with it on.

I positioned the plywood to make sure it fit around the door pillars. Notice it's in two pieces. I will attach hinges so I have access to the small storage areas below deck.

I was going to use the stock mounting bolts but they were too short so i got longer ones, but the ones i bought wont thread even though the thread tester at the store said they matched, so i'll have to wait til monday to continue (our hardware store here on the coast closes at 4pm Saturday and is closed Sunday). Delay of game.
