I have a chance of getting a 2006 F350 dually with the 6.0 power stroke with 87,000 miles. Can anyone tell me if this would be a good start of a rig to do hot shot and car hauling. I am new and trying to get started in the business, any info would be greatly appreciated

The 6.0 can be made a good engine. It has issues that can be fixed. The water side of the oil cooler , the water passages are too small and clog easily. This causes a chain reaction. Oil gets too hot, bakes the injectors. Water is not flowing correctly , and the EGR cooler gets too hot and fails quickly. But there is a aftermarket oil cooler that has much larger water passages , that does not have the clogging issue. Most all that's engines issues , trace back to the poor designed oil cooler. If I remember correctly the company is bullet poof my ford? As long as damage has not already done, this is almost a cure.

My neighbor has a 06 .
he has had some issues with it , but I would do some research and see if the head gsks Have ever been done on it or if it has the egr delete (or updated cooler) if it had head gskts done the heads should be studed then ( if ford gave him the option) most dealerships will because they dont want it back again . Because you have to pull the cab to do heads on those ( well you dont , but it makes it easier. )
I have always been told if you get a good 6.0 it will go forever , but if you get one of thpse problematic ones then its a fight..chalupa Thanks this. -
i've been tempted by many a 6.0 however all my friends who have them or have had them have spent several thousand dollars on the engine. all were bought used with 38,000 to 60,000 miles on them.
make sure it has never over heated or better yet.....RUN!!! -
I dont get that affraid . I have actually thought about buying one . I looked at a few that already had the money dumped into them and thats where your gonna get a good deal because that guy just plain and simple wants out of it now.
But the I thought about it more and I am in a truck for four weeks at a time . What the hell do I wanna go home and drive a truck for ? -
Had 205,000 on my 6.0 when traded. Only 1 injector replaced. Always warmed it up to tow (even in summer). Ran Amsoil extended life synthetic (20,000 mi. oil change).

If that's what you want to start with make sure you go through it with a fine tooth comb. I was trying to find one when I was starting but every single one had a blown head gasket. So instead I went with a dodge with the 6.7. Couldn't be happier. But whatever you do, DO NOT get a ford with the 6.4l.

I had an 03 it had 190k when I traded it in no problems at all.

6.0's can be great motors. Just sold my 03 6.0 six speed. It was a hell of a truck, very powerful. The things that need to be done; egr delete, oil cooler, head studs, and a custom tumed SCT programmer. The price for all that will cost yuh anywhere from 4,500 to 7,000 installed. Once that is done you will have a reliable and strong running truck.

Why not just bypass all the bs with a Ford and buy a good used Chevy Duramax???
