So I'm looking for my next truck and looking for some help looking. I'm looking at a 2003 international 7300, 2005 international 4400 (both have dt 466), 2004 ford f650 with cummins or a 07 freightliner M2 with a Mercedes. I know someone's gona say should get a single axle semi but I want to stay smaller in size but more than 26000k lbs. But also bigger than my dodge 3500.
Are there any other trucks I'm forgetting and should look at? NO CATS. What's everyone's experience with these trucks. Also what about a topkick or kodiak? Thanks
Looking for my next truck.

I live in California, so I ended up getting a 2015 cascadia evolution, which is a pretty looking thing. However, my deal is clandestine, but I guess that's trucking, but I'm making good money with this model. You on the other hand, stay away from 07-2010 Volvos
Dr_Fandango44 Thanks this. -
If I were you I'd stick with Detroits. They're a good solid engine especially the DD15. Sometimes though you really do need a bit of luck choosing a used truck. Because if you make the wrong choice like I did at first it can cost you mightily in repairs. My first truck had a Cummins ISX 450, now like the previous writer, I've just bought a '15 Cascadia.
good luck. -
I have talked with guys that really like the DT466 for both power and fuel economy but don't have any personal experience with them. I will say stay away from the 3126 CAT although I currently own 2 of them they are a fussy engine, must have very short regular oil changes and stay on top of regular fuel filter changes. I haven't had any major issues great fuel economy but short on power regardless of the configuration.

Anybody have any experience with the duramax? Looking at a 04 and 08 c4500.

That's good to hear, I just saw someone posted a while back that they had 700k on a 06 with a 4 car wedge. Plus duramax isn't in the usual "which engine is better" bickering going on so that's gotta mean something.
Other than the forum the only way I get a good grasp on a engine/truck is watching the side of the road. So far it's been brand new duramax or 6.0 6.4 fords. -
Myself, as far as class 7 goes, I have an International with a DT466E in it, and I don't have any complaints when it comes to maintnence, repairs, or fuel economy...I get 12 mpg on my
Lanes, loaded with 22k lbs behind it. Keep in mind I'm never in mountains, or anything, 90% flat land. I will say however, it lacks a SMIDGE of power, but that's only because I jump in it from my 550 kitty. The biggest issues I always have with any class 6 and 7 i own(ed) are the transmission...I can't stand the 6 speeds and such, but it's price I pay for not going class 8...but like you; i get more than enough towing capacity with less overall bulkiness and length...highly recommend the dt466!!!
